no cracks yet, but is that an accepted method of repairing alu or a workaround for temporary use ?
Ooh, didn't realize that it's alu. Not seen or heard of anyone brazing alu

I do feel for the silly old dear though, sounds like she really came off badly :S ! -

glad to see it resolved.

Does it matter what cranks i have for use with front derailleur? its friction shift so it'll just be adjusting it that makes a differance right?
Should work just fine if its set up properly.

any good?
I think if your natural postion is 0 degree sweep, you may be sitting too close to the bars?.
I want to cut them down for a new project to around 500mm.
T'is more that I have hyper mobility in a lot of my joints and wrists have a tendency to splay out a bit (wrists going out to the sides, hands facing in), so bars with more sweep are uncomfortable as they're doing the opposite to my hands!V. quick update. cash received in my account just now.

^^^^ Just a thought with that frame if you're keeping it, might be worth drilling out the dent then brazing on a top tube protector.
Drilling would eliminate the risk of cracks spreading
Worth asking a frame builder, after all, they still finish off the cut in the seat tube for clamp with a drilled hole to stop it cracking.

thinking about getting apex cranks+bb cheap in the fudge close out black to go with the rest of the parts and the bb on mine needs replacing which would be £20, could sell my current cranks for £25-30, and if i want black cranks at some point anyway may aswell just drop the extra £40 now and get the lot..
Did some more reading up and think i might have initially read up on front derailleurs wrong...
i think i might need a new fd, for some reason i had in my head that all fd's are friction shifting so my 105 brifters would work with my old tri-color front mech, but perhaps not...

fiddy dorrah ;)
I know someone said "pursue it, don't accept the cash" but actually they gave me exactly what I asked for, not an offer from them so to speak.
It was sensible and will potentially cover the cost of a new Gara + postage + forks (if there's damage) + headset, stem etc.
On top of that I dont have time/energy to get involved with the lawyers.
What if you don't actually need all of them money they have given you? Can you take it all with a clear conscience, or is some of it going to go back/go to good causes?

Sounds like TM might have a new thread for us soon...

can't tell if serious......

I don't really know, it's hard to tell what you'd do in a similar situation.
But I suppose if they have enough money that they're happy to give that much out then whatever.
What I'm trying to say is, if you're bike's actually damaged enough that it needs replacing, clearly it's right that they pay for the replacement. If it's a question of £100, good as new, but they're still giving you enough for a whole new bike, then...that's very generous of them

fair enough i say ^
you could get the bike out in a few month and it snap in half and then you'd be in no place to claim that far down the line

Sorry if I'm coming across as a heartless cunt! I'm really not heartless.
i see what you did there

^^^ Yeah fair enough, I wasn't making out that you were heartless, it just sounded as though the elderly woman had come out of the whole deal pretty badly off too, though it was obviously her fault. If their insurance is going to cover it as well that's a completely different matter too.

she did. and I've wished her the best and sent a card to her hotel the day after.
If it was my fault (i.e. RLJ) miro_o knows what I'd be going through at the moment

Using his penal system to make things better?

How well off are they? It comes across as they won't miss the money, so what's the big deal? Its her fault and she's paying for it.

Hi, new to the forum, and just recently bought this bike off a friend to start a little project along side my long time bmx hobby. Just wondering if anyone could help me out on a few details about the frame (apart from it being a Claud Butler) ? The head tube badge is fairly significant and seems interesting, because i don't have much knowledge of road bikes i was just looking for some help on determining the frame model.
Hopefully get some response and some ideas towards making it look as best it can...
