Is one of them American English?
Nice.... but pricey.

Went to Micycle and borrowed their Campag cassette tool, disassembled the whole rear hub and re-greased everything. World of difference is an understatement.
Took a cheeky pic on the way home :)
That looks really great, everything just looks spot on
I need something just like that but in my size, how much has it ended up costing?

EA90X (which doesn't seem to exist) or EC90X? If the latter, the change could just be down to the ~200g weight saving over the stock fork. Why not ask the seller a: why they changed the fork and b: whether they still have the original fork.
Based on prejudice rather than data, I think I'd avoid an aluminium/carbon hybrid for off road use (or any use, but off road makes it worse) as the one problem which doesn't seem to be completely solved in bicycle manufacture is glueing plastic to metal.
My bad - you're right, the fork is the EC not the non-existent EA. I have spoken to the vendor about it, but I was hoping for some independent info as he's hardly going to tell me that every second one out of the factory snapped. I'm an absolute noob when it comes to skinny wheels, dirt and gears so just looking to inform myself as much as possible before leaping in head-first.
I'm not overly worried about the bonding of two different substrates as the bike won't be getting thrashed around trails, I've got dedicated mtbs for that. Yeti -for one- have been doing it for years without any major recalls and those things usually cop much more abuse than this will.

If the stock forks were rubbish, it doesn't matter to you because you're getting the very tasty Easton as part of the deal, surely?

Project: Ride this until i decide on a new bike
Building this up for my girlfriend, her bike now is on its last legs so pretty much just swapping the frame over and having a few needed upgrades
I'm trying to fit some bullhorns for a charity ride we are doing soon and just to try out, but they look a bit stretched for her so may not use them, It will probably end up just as a 5 speed with risers and mudguards
Any cable routing ideas? probably just have them hanging loose the old school way

drill the bars beneath the levers and right next to the stem
-
• #65285
are those bars 26 or 25.4?
-
• #65286
Id rather not drill the bars.
they are 26mm, which reminds me, any one got a spare stem shorter than 90mm?

I managed to create a vicious bend inside the tape and keep it in place with Gaffer tape - works a treat and the braking's pretty smooth.
-
• #65288
(the other option if that doesn't work for you is to invert the levers (upside down))
-
• #65289
maybe i could have the cable come out of the tape a bit then back under the tape after about 3cm, just so the bend isn't as sharp

• #65290
It's also worth thinking about where you'll be putting your hands when you ride...
(with a tight turn covered in tape the bar's about as fat as you'd want it
with the cable protruding further you might find you lose the end of the bar as a possible hand position which could be a problem) - give it a go and see before comitting to bar tape -

Use a V-brake noodle for the bend. Keep it al lunder the tape.

I may have. I'll have to have a dig in my parts box(es) and see. I think the stem on my Sid Mottram might be shorter, but then again it might also be 90mm.

The longer i think about the stuff that needs doing to the Bob Jackson, and what i wanted it for, no matter how much i love it i'm going off the idea of building it with gears and feel i should let someone build it up how its meant too, i mean, it needs long drop brakes which are a bit crap, hasn't got much cable routing potential for sti's, brazeons would require a respray which is alot of money.
Starting to think it'd be better to just keep all the parts ive bought and get a more suibtable but similar frame.

^ no way!
just fit cable stops to clamp on dt bosses.
judging by the pic in your thread they've been chopped off no?
-
• #65298
chopped off?
you can tell it had downtube shifters clamped on before, need to try a differant clamp on as said previously the cable stops didnt fit onto the one C.B gave me

A bit of pvc tape is all you need to hold the cable in place under the tape
