  • I hate SkimLinks.

    They LIE!

    Seriously, they really do.

    Them and viglinks.

They both claim that if you insert "just this very small bit of JavaScript, barely a few hundred bytes" that it will magically convert every link and give money without users noticing.

    Except:
The few hundred bytes of JavaScript downloads over 35KB of other JavaScript files.
And the JavaScript is slloooooowww. Which affects user responsiveness and actually reduces traffic to the site as people leave for faster sites.
And the money they give you, well it's less 25%... 25%!!!!

But mostly I care that SkimLinks and VigLinks and the use of any JavaScript to achieve this heavily impacts the user experience.

To which they've said: "But many sites use this stuff".

    Yes.

Sites that load in only 4 seconds, and already have fuck loads of adverts and tracking from everyone and sites that make Ghostery almost flip out as it approaches 20 items in the alert bubble.

    Skimlinks sucks.

    Big time.

    And so does viglinks.

And both can suck me long before I actually consider putting them on the site.

    And relax.

    Yeah, I considered them.
