Nice one Rosie! Will go look!
And those of you thinking about having a go at TNRC I can't recommend Rosie's rides highly enough - try 'em! You might like 'em!

I have managed to get 3 ladies to be interested in such ride.
Any ride that'll happen anytime soon that they can join with you lots?

Just FYI for those of you interested, TNRC is going to be on Wednesday next week so as to not clash with England's final game in the
Euro cupgroup stages. The route is meant to be quite flat, so I'm gonna go, if any of you want to join as well that'd be great! Check the thread and get on the list! -

Am going to try and come up with some Brighton dates ASAP!
And some other rides. It's been too long!

I would definately be interested in any summer rides in the area of Brighton. I am working here for the moment. Thank you

I've got a friend coming to visit in August so we were thinking of doing a ride to Brighton (or maybe somewhere else) on Saturday Aug 18... haven't really done any planning about it yet, but thought I'd mention it.

I've been a bit out of the loop/busy with stuff lately but my schedule has been cleared! Will get back on the case with sorting some ride dates asap!

Hello all,
I arrived yesterday from Toronto and just had my road bike re-assembled (so glad it made it through the plane ride). I am staying in the "City" area of London for a month and I would like to do some rides on weekdays (whenever the roads are least busy). Could any of you recommend a group I could join or know any people who go out? I would love to do some rides in the country--I worry about riding through city streets alone as I have never ridden on this side of the road before. I can sustain at least 25km/hr, in terms of riding with an appropriately paced group. If anyone has any suggestions for me, I will be eternally grateful!

It sounds like you would love the TNRC (Tuesday Night Ride Club) every 2 weeks. Meet at a central London station, jump on a train into the countryside ride for 30 miles or so and then train back into town. The next ride will be Aug 14th assuming all stays on plan.

That kind of thing is perfect! Thanks for writing. I will keep looking for rides in the interim. I am training for a long ride through California and need to get out on the bike pretty often.

Have a look into the Rides and Races forum. There's a few longer rides at the weekends that may suit. The Herne Bay ride is "Fixed Only", but exceptions can be made as long as you understand that most will be on fixed/single speed and set your expectations accordingly.

Out of curiosity how fast is TNRC? I need to get my fitness back up after a few weeks off the bike due to illness...

^^ I'm planning or running a few longish rides on weekdays (60+ miles) to outdoor swimming spots - probably one in Essex and one in Oxfordshire - later this month. No problems if you want to come geared - will cross-post here.
^ Pretty fast - I went fixed, and was spinning like crazy on the descents to keep up with all the cheeky geared riders. You will get fit!

There are some very good riders on TNRC, but you won't be made to feel like a pariah for being a bit slower. It's certainly not a normal forum slow pootle.

@Torontovisitor
me, ms.chris (a Canadian living here) and another pal of hers who is visiting in about a week's time will be going for some 80-100km spins.
Usually we go to the coast, and then the train home.
Sometimes we'll start with getting a train just beyond the M25 and start riding from there rather than crawl through the burbs. Not sure if you want to hang out with other Canadians while you are here, but let us know if you're interested.

So at midnight last night I did the FNRttC ride to Brighton............. and back. The route back was along the A23 (cycle paths etc). Not great but not too unpleasant. Something that could be done once every 3 years I reckon. I believe there's another route involving Devils Dyke but having climbed Ditchling. I wasn't enthused by more climbing.
Mind you, some of the riders were able to come back by train: Southern and FCC so it's possible during the Olympics despite warnings/notices to the contrary.

That is a big ride! Strong work.

Thanks smiff. I have to add I did that ride with gears. There is absolutely no way I could have done the ride without them. God bless granny rings. This 40+ person is very glad they exist -:0)

Hi dublinkevin,
I would love to join--I am definitely interested. Riding to coastal places sounds interesting. I'm not sure how to private-message using this site, but do let me know if you are planning something. Thanks for letting me know--

If you click on my username to the left you should get a little drop down menu, one of which will be 'send a private message to dublinkevin'. But yeah what we usually do is go to somewhere on the essex or sussex coasts, and then get the train back after food and a pint. If you have four people together you can buy a group saver ticket which is cheap. Do you have a cellphone number for your time here?

Our mostly ladies rides have tailed off quite a bit recently (i'll get back on the case once this spell of hectic in my life is over! If anyone else wants to lead a ride though, go for it!) but here's a nice, sociable roll in a couple of weeks to the coast: http://www.lfgss.com/thread79718.html

Anyone fancy a ride out to Southend in the next couple of weekends? I did it last year, nice and flat, around 55 miles. Keen to do it again.
I have just posted a couple of non-afterworker century rides in the Essex Afterworkers thread, if anyone wants to get a century in over the weekend. One involves cakes and the other involves ponds. Can't go wrong.
