The appeal nature of being able to change while under load now become more obvious.
I loved my 11 speed alfine, but like any internal gear hubs I have to take a bit of weight off to change gear.
traffic is also useful for such hubs, the only issue I don't like about internal gear is the weird spongy feeling you get from not having a direct drive, did you get that too? that alone put me off internal gear touring/road bicycle (but for town/utility, it's perfect).
Plus, big tyres do make you go faster, I dare you aim for a pothole and see what happen.
