  • More pics damnit!!!

  • :D would do, but still incomplete...still waiting on a few bits like the bolt-on Athena FD

I will probably go for white cable outers too, I think it will look good :)

  • new chain, also new cassette?

  • White cable outers sounds good, also would suit the more classic styling.

  • new chain, also new cassette?

new chain yes (see above)... new cassette no. it's in good condition albeit a bit grubby.

  • Nice bike and also pretty nice tape :) keep up the good work.

  • thanks, not my tape though!

  • aa sorry, apologies, I am still getting a bit used to the website as I am a new comer :)

  • I've got a Cinelli A1 stem and it doesn't look as cloudy or milky as it does in that photo.
Still not quite as shiny as the Nitto though.

  • This arrived today

  • Anymore progress yet?

  • yup, almost done...(but been v. busy with work as well)

Bars arrived yesterday, as well as a Cinelli A1 stem (110mm, 26mm) that I put together quickly...Got some silver road SPD pedals too that you can sort of see in this picture too..

Whether XH's cables are long enough remains to be seen!!

  • bit of uneven brake wear on the rims, any suggestions to tidy this up?

  • put the gears through Sheldon's Calculator...gives me 50.1 GI through to 113.9 GI with the 12-21 cassette and 52/40t rings

  • Those bars ruin the look, they need to be a classic bend and silver.

  • I have tried some, 3TTT competizione specifically, but due to similar wrist issues to Spotter, I need a flat transition from tops to hoods. (see here)

  • At least strip them.

  • bit of uneven brake wear on the rims, any suggestions to tidy this up?

    http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/mavic-softstone-rim-cleaner-prod7152/

although you can get a similar abrasive block from b&q for about a fiver

oh, and the ssr-vr, look just wrong! are they available in alloy/silver finish?

  • again, this is not supposed to be a period correct build, the bars provide me with the comfort I'm looking for. If I don't get along with them I may consider a more classic shape, plus once they are wrapped the colour will be almost irrelevant.

  • It's your bike, yada yada.

However, you chose to use an anachronistic groupset, the only justification for which over a modern one is the aesthetic.

So it just seems a bit odd that everything hangs together really well, and looks great, apart from the bars- which are a jarring touch of modernity on an otherwise classic bike.

It's a bit like wearing Nike Air Jordans whilst on the tweed run.

  • You are right, but I do want to give the flat transition a go ever since I saw the Alvarez...
Again, open to change/improvements down the line :)

  • get it to easts on wednesday

  • Won't be ready by then....

  • just to compare roughly....

  • 2nd option looks well comfy
