• Slimline tonic or soda maybe?

• Slim line tonic and gin is basically the lowest calorie normal drink.

Most diet soda's have less than 1 calorie, so vodka and diet coke.

Personally I like JD and (diet) dr pepper... Although JD has a relatively high calorie count compared to other spirits because it's got loads of sugar.

I should probably make an admission that this is mostly theoretical knowledge as I tend to drink guinness... Prob the most calorific way of consuming alcohol.

• Couple of photos from a ring session yesterday. Weekly weigh in tomorrow, still aiming for the 80kg by the end of tour. I'm currently sat around 85kg.. plateau like a mofucka

• Good face!

Basically says that there is no science to back up sports drinks, expensive trainers and protein powders/shakes. Grahame Obree was on it saying he just eats jam sandwiches.

S'all true. Scientists have known it for ages. Need protein? Liver makes it. Need sugar? Liver makes it.

edit, just checked link. Thought it was for a short BBC article I already read. Not watched the programme!

The study does not mean that supplements do not work, just that they do nothing extra than food and are poor value in comparison to everyday food items. This is true, you can just drink some regular pop or eat a piece of fruit instead of lucozade.

Instead of protein supplements, you can eat some meat, eggs, or dairy products.

But, I think the spin of BBC article is confusing, pushing the angle that they do not do anything. This is not true.

If you deplete your glycogen stores and sweat out lots of minerals while our riding your bike, running or whatever some simple carbs (like in lucozade) and the electrolytes will perk you up massively.

The article also does not mention supplements that contain stimulants, which have all sorts of big effects.

gluconeogenesis can occur in the Kidneys and Intestines too.

Also, when your body would not rely on just gluconeogenesis to generate "fuel" as it relies on substances which are in short supply.

Your body will enter ketosis and start using fat stores for fuel.

(I dont actually know much about the details of all this, complex biochemistry)

• Just stuff yourself with baklawa and a teaspoon or two of salt.

• Bang! 16st 13lbs or 107kg as of this morning making a current total weight loss of just over 4 stone. My goal is in sight!

I am so going to reward myself with some fish and chips with mushy peas at the end of this - the one meal I keep getting cravings for :)

• By the way slackers on the Weight Chart - get your numbers in!

• Yeah, slackers! Get on it!

Congrats VanU! Enjoy the fish and chips, you've earned it.

• A cabbie stuck on OKR tonight leant out his window to compliment me on my weight loss over the last few years. "You're melting away mate, I see you down here all the time"

Thankyou randomly complimentary black cab driver man #notpurpleaki

• According to MyFitnessPal for the 2nd day in succession I haven't eaten enough calories. Doing well so far though. Might declare my weight soon.

• 89kg down to 70kg from my 29th birthday to my 30th. I'll call that a win, thankyou very much.

• Just updated on the spreadsheet a sum total of 0kg's lost since it started, had hoped to shift a little over the last couple of weeks as I was riding every other day of a John O to Lands End trip but it looks like we did a good job of keeping the calorie intake up as my bro has managed to put on a little!
So back in the gym at luchtime today, back on myfitnesspal and will have to spend a lot longer on the bike during the week, 19 days until a diving trip so need to make some headway before then as I doubt it will do much for my waist line either.

• diarrhoea for the last few days - some virus going round at work - lost a few pounds

*other weight loss regimes are available

• Did 3 weeks of experimenting with carb timing. I still ate plenty of calories, just avoided carbs in the daytime and only had them between training and bedtime.

I dropped from 77.5kg to 72.5kg - loss of 5kg. A Dexa scan verfied that this was ALL fat loss. I actually managed a tiny muscle increase.

The strange thing is, I could not visually see a change at all. I took before and after pictures and to my eyes I looked exactly the same. I ran a few times during the period, and in a submaximal cycle based fitness test I made an improvement.

The process was horrible though, I hated going without carbs all day.

• Hmm so stress of being on holiday with Ex last week seems to have helped weight loss! Down from 83kg to 79kg. Also, lost an inch around the waist! Score.

• Actually it's possibly more likely because I've stopped eating carbs, and switched from drinking beer to white wine.

I lost half a stone with the shitfast plan.

You have the dribbles for breakfast, the screaming arse drippers for lunch and a normal dinner.

• Just sold a suit I bought last year to a colleague. Trousers were a 42" waist. New suit trousers have a 36" waist, and could do with a belt.

• Just ate two custard tarts and a pack of M&Ms. #winning
