  • I couldn't make it as I was at home with a bad back. I've heard him on the radio. Sounds like a very interesting man.

  • Reading his column in The Independent, it seems Mark Steel was there too.

  • Totally missed all the last page's stuff, would have like to attend the event at Friends' House.

OK so Wen Jian, let's start talking about a date for your excellent-sounding ride! I have totally flaked so I'm glad you're stepping up to the plate.

  • I'm in. Let's talk.

  • Heads up about an interesting (if small) exhibition in the foyer at The Womens Library in Old Church St, Spitalfields. It's called 'Cycling to Suffrage', and covers the role of bikes in the lives of women generally, and the suffrage movement particularly during the cycling craze and the Edwardian era.

I attended a really good talk by the curator last week. Needless to say, the Clarion got several mentions. As did the subject of Rational Dress, which was a prominent Clarion concern.

I was interested to find that there were Suffrage Scouts, like the Clarion Scouts, who would ride out to various towns just outside the cities where they were based to distribute leaflets, parade in suffrage colours and hold political meetings. I would expect that a lot of the suffrage scouts were Clarion members as well.

Well worth a visit. And do remember to give a donation to TWL while you're there.

Sorry, I missed this. I'm well up for it still.

I have been crap at turning up to meetings in the flesh, for a variety of factors - not least that I'm also arranging my wedding and all the nonsense that goes with it.

Regarding the ride, I'll post a revised route this evening, and we can start looking at dates. I might be able to do something soon or in July, or failing that September.

  • Anyone up for coming to Cyclocamp with me http://www.lfgss.com/thread86428.html? I have just booked tickets to Berlin then I am going to cycle the 100 odd miles to Leipzig I am really looking forward to it.

  • ^ I'll be up for it next year if it's on again - unfortunately it coincides with my honeymoon. A pity - I'm getting married in Germany and used to live in Leipzig!

  • Do you ever get that funny deja-vue feeling?

  • Nope never been to Leipzig before though I am going off on a European jaunt again and still can not persuade others to come with me.

  • OK @ WJ! Let's get back out of 'trackstand' and into 'critical mass speed' 'round here...

Cyclocamp is mighty inspiring Zebs, loved the film I saw when I managed to turn up at the Hackney Cycle Film Club night...

  • Hello! I looked for this thread to add my name to the list of London Clarion members to find that it is already there.

Are there any more meetings planned?

  • Reminder Olympic Truce Tour arrives tomorrow 16th Aug Victoria Tower Gardens 5:30 - 6:30

  • See you at the bike Film Show Monday night? https://www.lfgss.com/thread92713.html

  • Yep

  • Spent the weekend at la Fête de la Huma. Cracking weekend, much camaraderie, random groups of happy (and slightly drunk) people singing the International, also Patti Smith headlining on the Saturday. Recommended.

Anybody interested in going next year? Bicycles an advantage as the parking is mad.

  • Yeah I am up for it

  • any news of events happening around london today / this weekend

  • Ah I missed it all. Apart from a truly awful party. The DJ (DK) was pretty good though. Shame the crowd was about 30% forum, 70% Oxton suspect friday drinkers.

  • I'd put it at 10% forum 90% whatever

  • But then it was pissing with rain

  • I got to the Barbican for the 1700 screening on Saturday. There were probably loads of forummers there, and maybe some other clarionites, but I only recognised people I knew through LCC

  • I was there for most, volunteering.
1700 showing on Saturday was great I thought. liked Wolfpack Marathon, Tour de Tan and I thought Smile for Future was amazing.
Sunday was a great program all round.

We need more people at the parties.....

  • As long there was a good crowd at the screenings that is all that matters the parties are icing on the cake.
