Shit investment, ugly, not what I want
If you buy a watch as an "investment", you're going to have a bad time.

^This
V-L - get a Suunto Vyper or D6 for diving and just get a watch. I like my dive watches (1 x Seiko & 1 x Christopher Ward) but they are purely an emergency back up to my computer.

Well I just don't like those rubber looking watches, just looks like a Casio to me
A friend of mine who is a very serious watch collector said that this model is now specifically sought out for yet still able to be found at a reasonable price. It is also so tough that it can be worn on a daily basis without destroying it -

I'm a big fan of my Seiko, and if it does get destroyed then it's not exactly a fortune to replace.
As you were.

Damn, now I want a black Rolex Explorer again. Not with a green face though. And not with someone else's branding added to the dial

Loving my G-Shock more than I ever thought I would.
FWIW, the ONLY watch I've ever had that has not stopped, noticeably lost time or done anything wrong is my 8 year old G-Shock. It's a world time, 200m stainless steel thing... Like I say, 8 years on and still going. It keeps dates, times across timezones, has button to illuminate the face etc. Brilliant.
It's been surfing most days of it's life, been 40ft diving, at -25ºc at the top of some alps. Really is the best watch I've had.Sadly my Citizen Eco-Drive diving watch has completely died, and now my Seiko Crono has gone kaput. Hoping thats just a battery.

Casio is solid state?
Not a lot to go wrong if seals are good.

Solid state?
Quartz with solar power and a rechargeable battery. They also set time according to radio signals, so they're never wrong or need adjustment.
Because of the low power needed (they're a master at low power), these batteries last insanely long.
The result is, if the watch fits your aesthetic needs... it effectively works forever and is never wrong.
Finding one that fits your aesthetics is the hard bit.

I spend a lot of my time bicycling. This has the result of making me skinny.
I need a proper watch. But a 40mm face looks gigantic on my boney wrist.
Any suggestions for a suitable device? -

I'm considering this for my first proper watch:
It's a Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope with a steel strap. Is this a sensible buy? By that I mean am I better off going for something a bit more normal/obvious? I love the look of it but it's quite... delicate. I'm thinking about longevity and, vaguely, resale value. They sell for about £1500 new.
Shit investment, ugly, not what I want
