  • Flare them a little and you could hide your legs behind the fork blades.

  • Those forks look similar concept to the AX Lightness forks which were designed with input from a sauber aero engineer

Blah from site .. "There is also a technical explanation for the prominent fork rods: When wheelsets turn turbulence is created and the greater distance between the rods provides more room for this to pass, resulting in fewer “bad” braking air streams. Moreover, the forward movement of the resulting air mixing is successfully guided around the bike and the rider's legs. "

  • Trek went wide with the SC fork; it's an idea which has been kicking around for a while

  • Flare them a little and you could hide your legs behind the fork blades.

Look at the bars; they have been flaring the drops to modify the flow to the forearm area for a few years now.

  • Cannondale have a similar looking shape to the seatstays of their TDF tt rigs this year.

16 seconds (zipps vs traditional wheels) is a pretty big gain, and makes me think better of my tt times.

  • The now traditional "garage door" picture:

Few more pictures, including the cats

  • pleased with the stickers?

  • Yep, went on really well- getting the old ones off was a lot more of a challenge.

Made it easy to line them up though- old one off, clean, new one on.

  • I'm confused... Did they actually have stickers on before or is a joke about spotters off brand font?

  • They had stickers on, but they were a bit tired.

I emailed Zipp, who said they'd be delighted to sell me some new stickers for £50 plus postage.

I spoke to Spotter, who provided me with the details of the chap he used, and spent ~£10 on new stickers for both wheels.

  • £50 for stickers from zipp! Fair enough if they weren't mass produced but...

  • Maybe the zips ones are more aero

  • You joke, but don't the stickers cover up those expensive aero-dimples?

  • The vinyl is very thin, and very sticky- once you have aligned the sticker you run your thumb over it with a firm pressure, and the vinyl adheres to the dimples.

  • They make a great rumbling noise btw, just had a quick run round the park.

  • I thought on the dimpled ones they were under the laquer(?).

I know decals still cost zipp money, but you'd have thought they'd rather their users kept the lary logos.

Looks really good tho (usually think zipps look a bit naff).

  • I did wonder about leaving them off, but when I'd got the first one off you could see where it had been after I'd cleaned it, which looked a bit daft (the rim was shiny all over, but matt where the sticker had been), so I put the new stickers on.

I think the resale value is probably significantly higher with the stickers on, also, and I may turn these around fairly quickly.

Anyway- just been out for a quick spin, on smooth tarmac these sound great- to the point that other cyclist look over their shoulder to work out what's coming up behind them in Richmond Park I found.

They also feel very stiff, with zero brake rub when out of the saddle and 800 watts+ applied.

The front wagged its head in a gust of wind, which I corrected as it happened- the rear was completely unaffected.

There is a slight pulse under braking from the rear, which is explained by it being slightly out of true- I'll get that sorted over the next few days, other than that the wheels are perfect.

Braking is very good- better than I'd been expecting, with a nice "zipp!" noise from the Reynolds blue pads.

  • First dibs if you do sell - pending price of course

  • Where are you Roymund?

  • There is a slight pulse under braking from the rear, ............

    sucks through teeth.

Good luck with the spoke key

  • I'm going to leave that to a professional.

Also, it's only just noticeable- if it's a case of leaving it then I'm ok with that.

Bugger to true, I am guessing?

  • have a chat with the Condor guys, or with Arup. I have read that is not impossible to true a carbon wheel

  • very easy to get the spokes nice and evenly tensioned, not so easy to resolve a bulge or dip in the rim. You shouldn't be able to feel a slightly out of true rim under the brakes

  • After some rigorous checking:

    • It's not a sudden dip
    • The rim is ~1mm closer to the right hand side of the bike at the valve than it is opposite the valve

Should I not be able to feel that?

  • sorry Dammit but i had to level the pic

your bike sure is a dream bike for me
