    I always feel rough if I train before breakfast. I do it the whole time (and actually think it has some [totally unscientific] benefits) but expect to feel shit.

    If you must take something I'd suggest drinking energy drink during the run - work out what works for you by trial and error (some people don't get on with some brands). Up to 42km I tend to use gels, over that I alternate gels and flapjack/nutrigrains &c. but you have to train your stomach to be able to cope.
