I got a bit put off by the supposed weight of the Almax chains, does anyone have one and would you guys recommend them over my current option?
Forget the supposed bit, I leave mine at home and work, I certainly wouldn't even consider carrying the work based Series IV chain anywhere. It however is strong enough that other cyclists lock their bikes to it...

• #1753
Ah, I really want a portable option, now leaning Atomic 22 + Abus Granit 54+.
would I need a secondary lock with this route?
-
• #1754
Just what expensive bike you're going to get to need a lots of security?

I already posted it above. The point is more that I HATE having stuff nicked.

You're getting a bog standard hybrid and you're worried about security.
Just get two decent lock and insurance.

They update their review? Must be a new model, everywhere else says it's a great lock...
Fired off an Email to Atomic22 this afternoon about a few items and they got back to me at 9:30pm, pretty good imo.
He had this to say as well:"We are actually in the latter stages of preparing a new product offering which will reduce the cost for this wheel security, details of which will be announced soon. The skewers are a redesign on the existing ones, very beautiful and very, very low profile"
Pretty awesome news although obviously have to wait to see what the compromise might be even still, very nice guy over there.
At the moment I'm probably going to get the Abus above and a Fug mini and then when I get the news the new Atomic22 skewers are out I'll get a set of those so will only need one lock the majority of the time.

I like the 23cm version of the Granit X-Plus 54. The picture in the bikeradar review makes it look like it uses the smaller of Abus's frame mounts with the fabric strap holding the mount to the frame. Maybe they've changed since I bought mine a few years back.
Mine came with a plastic block which you actually lock the lock through. Much more sturdy, I thought.
Both mounts cause the lock to rattle and the 30cm version seems to rattle much more than the 23cm one (I have both). -

In fairness ed, a badboy is a pretty desirable bike to nick.

This list will not include rope locks, as they are useless. Primarily this will list shackle locks with a bar diameter of at least 16mm*,
18mm being preferable if choosing between either.Other, lock types (armoured cables, and heavy chains) will be listed, but in a different section.
There will be no compromise based on weight or price. Only the best will do.
Summer is coming, and tea-leaves are ready. Whether you own a Pinarello, or a SE Lager, you'll want to keep it.
- = The exception to this is Abus' specially hardened 13mm steel, which has survived testing that some 16mm steel U-locks failed.

This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jijKSgDx8Hc
looks like it is the abus granit 54 being made.I was thinking about getting a brute x4 since they're quite cheap, but I'm surprised such a beefy looking lock is apparently only silver rated http://www.soldsecure.com/search///lk5001-onguard-brute.html

bought this for le girlfriend: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/abus-granit-53-ush-bracket-bike-d-lock-300mm/
Its to lock a sub £500 single speed bike which is also insured :)
Fahgettaboudit and Granit 54 were both too heavy for her.
Anyway the use is going to be minimal as we store bikes in the house and she can take her bike in her office.Decent lock I must say. Seemed like good weight/security balance.

That's another lock I'm considering, although there's a review that says theirs was cropped here:- http://www.evanscycles.com/products/abus/granit-53-d-lock-ec027385#reviews

Is the current thinking still
1x fahg (or granit) + front security skewer
2x Kyp evo's?
Obviously 2 locks give security to both wheels, though can't see myself tugging 2x fahg's around (4.5kg!). Or has anything significant changed in the world of locks?

Seems like a pretty cracking price for that lock.
Are these cropper proof even though they are not 18mm?

Why do you continue to refuse to read the first page of this thread? ALL your questions have been answered before. There are also links to tests and reviews that should help you make your choice, but you refuse to look at them.
Bizarre.

Aye aye stop being a grouch :)
Ordered from these anyway:
It's a pretty good price, been looking for a fair while now and never seen it this cheap, wasn't really sure it was the same model tbh.

I think I'll get the new version of the Onguard Brute. http://www.go1bike.fr/en/5810-lock-onguard-8001-brute-std-111-x-202-o-16-mm.html
It has got a higher solid secure rating than the old version: Gold instead of silver, rubber coated - I even like the colour :o), and claims the key is a bit stronger (one of the things that put me off the old model was reviewers complaining their keys snapped off). From the catalogue image it appears that the lock only has 4 pins though, so it probably wont be the most difficult to pick.

Forgot to add a link to the new catalogue to my post :- http://www.onguardlock.com/catalog/onguard2012.pdf
I've found a video & review of 4 locks, including the new version of the onguard pitbull, which is a bit thinner than the brute. here:- http://gizmodo.com/5922074/the-best-bike-lock
And here's a novel way to secure a bike http://inhabitat.com/this-bendable-bike-can-tie-itself-to-any-post/ it's bendable!

Someone left their bike(shitty yellow foffa) locked up against a railing in my place, residences management put a sign on there telling them to move it. They didn't. Just watched one of the maintenance guys come and cut the evo mini off with cordless dremmel. Watch out those using mini evo's!
-
• #1774
Finally invested in my locks. Kryptonite NY 3000 as primary, and an OnGuard Brute X4 as secondary (I always carry a bag, and given the price, I figured I'd double up on 16mm).

Someone attacked my Granit earlier this year. Apart from the rubber, the lock is intact. Sadly, the idiot managed to scratch my frame in the process.
Just fired an email off to Atomic 22 about some Skewers an ahead and a seatpost lock...
They are really nice.
