• Lagging FTW! If you cant get frame spacers then a bit of wood cut down to size does the trick

  • Never had any problems with PARCEL FARCE :)

    and you get a tracking no. to!!!!!

    Ta
    I'll have a read through these also

  • If a firm in the US exclusively use ParcelForce for their shipping, does that mean you are effectively guaranteed to get stung by customs every time?

    Also, is 40%+ typical, or a pisstake (or both!)?

  • I used Interparcel - [URL="http://www.interparcel.com"]www.interparcel.com[/URL

    £650 to ship 3 bikes to Oz. :-s
    I've assumed 10kgs and a measurement of 147x22x96cm

    shitthebed

  • 3 bikes? that's not too bad, I apparenty need to pay £300 for a 7.5kg bicycle from the states.

  • What company is best for shipping a boxed frame within the UK?
    I will require it to be picked up from my office.....

    Any reccomendations?

  • One of the aggregators like parcel2go or interparcel.

  • interparcel.

    Dredge.

    Interparcel now wont sent framesets or complete bikes via their own service. They will send them as a Prohibited Item via Citylink but with zero liability for loss or damage and no way of getting cover.

  • oh just make a complaint to e-Bay that the seller has renaged on the deal- see what they make of it, they're pretty quick off the mark on complaints. A deal is a deal and he agreed to it when placing the ad.

    I'd tend to hold off the feedback until you know for definite which way this is going- you can use that as a lever.

    You can always ask for your money back and walk away

  • Don't use yodel. They lost a bike I sent on a 48hr service for 16 days.

  • i need to get my bike from Portugal to Australia, thinking of courier rather than flying with it via London. Anyone send their bike before let me know who you did it with and how much it cost please. cheers!

  • I've sent bikes before and I've got a bike box from a bike shop, then used:

    extra card and bubblewrap in the bottom;
    removed the wheels and used dropout spacers to prevent the fork legs/dropouts from getting squished;
    pipe lagging on all tubes;
    derailleur removed and zip tied somewhere safe,
    more bubblewrap;
    bars loosened and swung around;
    saddle and post removed and packed with more bubblewrap and card;
    pedals removed and packed with bubblewrap and card;
    wheels (skewers removed if they're QR) packed with bubblewrap and then card also.
    Once everything is in the box, make sure that there's no space at the ends - more card etc and that everything is packed and secured tightly.

    I mailed a bike from Japan to the UK and, if I remember rightly, it cost about £110 (including insurance) but that was quite a few years ago.

  • I would recommend http://www.interparcel.com/

    Great rates, loads of couriers and really good customer service. Plus they pick up from residential & deliver to residential.

  • It may be better to travel with it. Some airlines offer packaging etc for bikes. Is the reason for posting due to the hassle of having the bike along with other baggage ?

  • Hi all,

    Sorry for the unrelated post, but this might be of interest to some of you... I'm an assistant producer based in London, and a freelance director is shooting a short 5 minute documentary at the start of February. It's basically a 'slice of life'/expose on life as a cycle courier. The idea is that many people in London use cycle couriers, but nobody really has an insight into what life as a cycle courier is really like, or has any idea that there is actually a community of cycle couriers who work in London, like on this forum for example. It will be a cool, short, really nicely shot little film, and streamed on Vimeo. We need a courier who is enthusiastic about what they do, and keen to star in a short film, who we would shoot over the course of a single week during February. You wouldn't even have to miss any work. If anybody thinks they might be interested or wants to find out more, please contact Daniel Garcia on daniel@connectedpictures.com, or phone 07867 417550

  • Been trying for a few weeks to find the cheapest option to send my bike from London to Lyon. Since everything's calculated by volumetric weight it makes it ludicrously expensive from most companies. The cheapest I've found is TNT via Interparcel, at £74.62 + VAT. My boxed bike measures 138x23x80cm, and although the bike only weighs around 10kg I will always be charged for just over 50kg. Annoying, but now I'll be filling every nook of that box with heavy stuff (locks, etc.) to make it better value. Just in case any of you worry about the prohibited list, which states that "Any of these items [inc. bicycles and frames] being sent may result in prosecution, heavy fines and imprisonment," I received an email from them to better explain their restrictions:

    "Thank you for your email.

    Bicycles / Bicycle Frames are only Prohibited with the Interparcel services which is UPS however, you can send this item though any of the other services we display on our website.

    Bicycles / Bicycle Frames are classed as Restricted through the other services which means that the goods are sent at your own risk, and you are only covered against, loss and not damage. "

    If anyone has found anyone cheaper, please do let me know. Otherwise, I'll be going with these guys on Monday.

  • I'd love a bit of advice about posting to Europe, seems like it's impossible to post for less than 70£. Anyone with any gems of advice?

  • I'm taking mine to LA so it's free on Virgin if under 23kg - I was looking at shipping but as I'm going myself it's the best option.

    Deets here - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/travel-information/baggage/sports-equipment.html

    In terms of shipping this was the best site I found in terms of cost for shipping.
