  • Personally I take issue with the fact that you seem to have something against people with "too much disposable income". Which is a pretty odd gripe on a forum full of people riding overspec'd fetish bikes predominantly living in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

On the contrary, I earned some good commission from the disposable income, paid my way through university. As for the forum, dam good chance I sold a few bikes to some of the cunts on here.

  • You have derogatory opinions about everyone.

    Charmed.

  • Lemonsqueezer does appear to be a man of principal, albeit bitter, envious and rather distasteful ones.

Lets see if he Admiral Wests as time goes by.

  • You have derogatory opinions about everyone.

    Charmed.

oh I am sorry Mr alternative reality where fixies started in 2007

Are you 9 years old with shit in your pants?

If you want to have a conversation that's ok but ^ this isn't part of one.

  • Are you 9 years old with shit in your pants?

No, but I can shit in them for you and post them to you, for a small fee of course.

If you want to have a conversation that's ok but ^ this isn't part of one.

And sneakily editing your posts is your idea of a conversation?

  • does lemonsqueezer deserve a special party devoted to his favoured fruit?

  • does lemonsqueezer deserve a special party devoted to his favoured fruit?

Thanks, but you will have to find a different excuse to dance James.

  • this is great

  • And sneakily editing your posts is your idea of a conversation?

You'd have a field days with me constantly editing my post.

  • You'd have a field days with me constantly editing my post.

Should that not be day rather than days?

Can you edit it for me please?

  • Trend predictions:
Cross bike armageddon (every other commuter who used to ride an allez now will have a tricross)
Hipsters will mostly be riding decent old mtbs
Lowrider racks will be next year's saddle bag
    Couriers on 4k BMCs
    Touring bikes will be hip
Roadies will continue to be utter cunts

I've been riding old mtbs and tourers since way before they were cool.

  • I like bicycles

  • And sneakily editing your posts is your idea of a conversation?

    Sneaky?

    Conspiracy theory thread >>>>>

  • To be fair Miro is quite correct- the Fixie (Skidder) as we know it evolved in 2007.

There have of course been fixed wheel bikes pre-dating that epochal event, but they were and are for the Skullys of this world, not the Teenslains.

  • To be fair I think thats only in the UK.

IIRC it was originated from the Caribbean in the 1980s from the Jamacan Fixed skidders and then migrated to New York during the 1990s as a result of the increase popularity of commercial reggie from the likes of Shaggy and Shabba Ranks.

  • Who is Commercial Reggie?

Anyway, I kind of accept what you are saying, but I think things such as the HHSB (see Tynans Argon 18 for a good example) were very much a product of the great 2007 era.

Repurposing an old track bike as a beater because it was a) cheap and b) had less to go wrong came before that, and gave rise to the HHSB's when (dare I say it) the proto-Hipsters latched on to it and it became a trend.

  • ^
    this.

^^ I can't comment on the bit about Shaggy.

There have always been fixed wheel bikes around (lots of conversions aswel as re-appropriated track frames). They were usually build by people into cycling though rather than for the general non-cycling public.

In 2007 Bikeradar watched MASH and all bought Charge Plugs... 'fixies'.

  • Regarding the OST site... that's a NY perspective.

I'm not saying you're wrong Sohi, but just quoting an old URL doesn't mean much on it's own. Quite a lot happens without being blogged.
    ;-)

  • i posted that in support of your statement. that it used to be a cycling centric thing instead of a fashion
    fad

  • Sure, apologies if that sounded snappy.

I've not seen much written from a UK perspective or I'd post it.

  • at that time i was on the fixed forum on some american website and then got an invitation to join this one.
there was not much going on online here.
I guess the british tradition is the fixed audax type winter bike. but going back so far that nobody saw a reason
    to write about it.

Will Audax riders continue to be internet hardmen who are all talk and no trousers, confined to riding at ridiculous hours when no other cyclists are out, seeking food from petrol stations and skulking in bus shelters and village halls?
