1000% agreed. Got a half fillet for Christmas brunch at my parents and it went down a treat so I hear. I miss it!
Stumbled across a new weekly (every sat and sun) market in st giles square behind TCR today. Amongst the stalls was one from Hansen-Lydersen.
I've been meaning to try their salmon for a while (for those who don't know, he's a slightly mad norwegian bloke who lives in N16 and smokes his own salmon to his grandfathers recipe) but the idea of forking out 70 quid for a side put me off.
The stall sells 100g for a fiver. Quite pricey i guess but not exactly out of reach.
It is without doubt the finest cold-smoked salmon i've ever had. Ever.
They also sell little bruschetta type things with a slice of nice bread, some neals yard creme fraiche and a sprig of dill for 2.50.
With my 100g, I ate a third on the bus, a third with poached eggs, a toasted buttered muffin and some chives. And the last third just now with tagliatelle, watercress, creme fraiche and lemon juice.
It's simply unreal. To the extent I'm thinking about going back tomorrow.
It was the first day for the market today so it was quite quiet. Mostly cake stalls but there was also a cider stall, a chutney stall, cheese, sausages, bread.
