After nearly two weeks in New York City I have yet to visit a real coffee place, and even though there's a hideous heatwave going on I feel like I ought to find one (an air conditioned one obviously). I've discovered that Stumptown is just around the corner from the place I'm staying at Madison Square, but if anyone has another recommendation I'd be happy to hear it.
Jack's in SoHo / South Sea Port. The SSP one is bigger and better.
The National on Rivington St (Lower East Side).
La Colombe on Lafayette & Prince.
Habana Outpost on Prince is mental. It's alway super busy and they do Caribbean food, and really good filter coffee.

A bit less if you can collect from a high street store near you (I suppose there is some reason that the prices have just gone down?)

At least you don't have to ride back from the other side of London with it balanced on your bars

Thought so, wonder why The currys link says it does.

Because the overriding qualification needed to work at Currys is to have an IQ equal to Forrest Gump?

Chris King tampers are not comfy to use, unless you have smaller hands. You can get something more practical for the money, or cheaper, and spend the rest to save up for the headset, if you haven't got one yet.

After spending all morning researching coffee machines, I've decided that anything I'll be truly satisfied with is outside my budget right now. With this in mind, I've plumped for an aeropress, and porlex grinder.
If I decide I want a cappucino, what are my options for frothy milk? I'm drawn towards a cafetiere style plunger frother for warm milk, over the aerolatte style, and all in one heat/froth solutions, but would love an experienced opinion.

my amateur method is an aluminium pan and a whisk.works quite well. I wouldn't call it micro foam but give it a try before you spend any money. warm the milk, stick your finger in to check temperature and when it's about right turn the heat off and give it a good beating with the whisk as though you were making a meringue.
I can picture bombcup dying a little inside as I type this but together with my stovetop, porlex and monmouth beans it makes a perfectly decent start to the day
Been meaning for ages to try this place. Real nice coffee. Recommend!
