Just been chatting to a colleague who is doing the alpe d'Huez tri this year, I'm a bit jealous! Has anyone here ever done it?
I've done the alpe d'huez tri before. It's tough. Real tough.
The half marathon at the top, at altitude and after leaving my legs on 21 bends, was incredibly hard. I'd run an 84 min half marathon 2 months before at the Bala middle distance, but struggled to finish the run in less than 2hrs20. Also, I blew my load on the first two climbs...so alpe d'huez was (believe it or not...) incredibly tough... The day before we drove the course a thought nothing of the second climb (Col d’Ornon)....we were wrong...It was windy and it slowly and meticulously wore my legs down. It can also be quite hot, I remember it being 34 at the foot of alpe d'huez.
The swim is awesome and the first bit of the cycle is quick and scenic and as can be expected the descents are super fast.
I'd definitely be up for doing it again...at some point...
