The come with a few spacers so you can play with the chainline a bit. Otherwise a bike shop should have a few spare cassette spacers in their parts bin.
Using a standard cassette sprocket on a Shimano hub will be fine, it's stuff like Hope, Halo, DT and the like that will need the wide foot. They seem to have a softer cassette body. Been using a shimano hub for the past year with a standard sprocket and there's no signs of damage.
