Figured out the problem in any question answered,

the plastic cup was split and glued back together and won't screw in any further than that,
the plastic side isn't supposed to be greased is it? theres no grease on the plastic side

Admiring this build! Make do and mend. I'm too lazy/wealthy to be gluing bits together, but good on you.
