  • Who's to say the seller "knew" it was dodgy? What if the lockring wasn't tight enough - takes about 5 skids to destroy a perfectly good thread...

If you wanna ride a fixeh and want to run 2nd hand wheels, you need to understand the basics and inspect the shit you buy.

Anyway, it's not dangerous as the OP claims - that's why you run a front brake too.

  • Sure i checked it out by test riding it. They were broken so i asked for a refund.... what would you do, or how would you test them?

So your 'check' of the wheel was to pay for it, then test ride it (and break it)?

I fear you are doing it all wrong.

  • it's going to be a new page soon, can't wait..

  • sorry, just got to nip out and get the cows in, the dolan tarck will suffice!

yea and if you plant this wheel in the ground, it grows more fucking shit wheels, its like a fucking golden chicken, only its not a golden chicken, its a fucking broken wheel

  • dear reader, save yourself the previous page of op bleating, it's just not worth it..

  • Dave - What outcome would make you happy here?

the guys on the forum are right.

  • Na, bollocks. You sell shit on as working, expect comeback if it turns out to be fucked. This forum works on trust: we often buy and sell unseen. If there's a valid complaint, you're a cunt if you don't refund.

The point is it was ridden, then broke. A thread can strip at any point. It's terrible bad luck if it happens within minutes of it belonging to someone new, but that isn't the fault of the seller.

  • So is the thread about rebuilding it?

........as it is current projects and all that.

  • Which reminds me, I must get in touch with a famous seller of stuff about a crap deal he dealt me a while back.

    name and shame

Those beans were magic when I gave them to you; you had the chance to test plant a beanstalk but chose not to.

  • This is not the place for dealing with this and you've now turned your problem into a joke. 2nd hand is 2nd hand, you buy cheap- you buy twice. Contact the seller, if he refuses to cut you a deal or discuss the matter, neg rep him/her and name in Bad Traders.

    Fin

  • this whole thread.

  • you don't come out of that particularly favourably, why highlight it?

  • A bit of advice if you please.

Bought some complete wheels with tires off here a week or so ago and they arrived today. The wheels are great, pretty much as described but I asked the seller if they were good to go, i.e. just pump the tires up and thats me.

Hey said yep, good to go.

They are missing the wheel nuts, only one of them has an inner tube in them and because they are 'aero' i'm guessing I need a valve extender? The front wheel looks like it has an extender.

Now am I just being a bit shit as I got a good bargain or am I right to moan to the seller that they are not 'good to go'?

I've already sent him a message stating the above, I am just wondering if I am being a bit of a dick by moaning about it.

Update* I just looked at the photo he posted of the wheels and they have no wheel nuts and missing a tube so I guess it's down to me clarifying what good to go actually means.

  • Good to go = ready to be used I reckon.

  • 'Good to go' is a difficult term to define, you might have meant ready to be fitted and used as Ed suggests, he might have meant they didn't need truing or new spokes or anything, unless you asked specifically it's not a given.

But precisely because of the vague nature of the term 'good to go' maybe he should have mentioned the wheel nuts and tube.

I wouldn't say either of you is being a dick (and I wouldn't say it's enough to warrant the seller being labelled a bad trader by any means), it just sounds like a misunderstanding.

Thats why I thought I would ask instead of being "THIS GUY IS A DICK ETC ETC".

I will wait and he see what he says, he might be nice and give me a couple of quid back to cover nuts/tube.

  • Did you pay via paypal?

  • I wouldn't be spending energy arguing over an innertube, but missing track nuts is annoying. I wheel with no way to fasten it to a frame is def not 'ready to go'

  • +1

It' a bit slack of the seller really.

  • Transparency is key I feel.

Whenver I sell something here I go out of my way to get the best photos possible, detail any faults, scratches etc, and if there is anything missing (eg wheelnuts, lockring, a screw) so everyone knows exactly where they stand.

To me the missing wheelnuts is annoying, are these wheels the Miche Pistards listed with that lopro frame?

if that's the case, I'm not surprised, the guy was a chancer and I wouldn't have been dealing with him in the first place.

  • ^he's fine... in my experience.

No this isnt the same seller. I got a reply apologising and saying I could have a full refund if I posted them back to which I replied:

I don't really want to send them back. Thats going to cost me money and then you have to go through the hassle to sell them again.

I'm happy with them. I just thought it was worth pointing out that maybe they weren't as good to go as you said / I thought.

I'm going to get a tube and some wheelnuts from the LBS today. It's probably only going to cost me £5-£6 max. Do you fancy covering the cost of those? Thats a much better situation.

I will see what he says.
