Gerald, this excess oil, have you topped it up by that much recently? Do your carbs weep fuel? Do you turn your fuel taps off when you've parked? I have seen, only once, a crankcase filled with petrol from a 'leaky' carb dribbling fuel through the inlet and running down the bore. If there is any chance of that It would be worth an oil and filter change.
