mikey5000 thanks, i used the sump bolt in the end. embarrasingly there was almost a litre and a half too much in there.

i'll check the air filter later this morning and sonic clean the carburettors.

i broke the ''all the gear, all the time'' rule the other day and rode to the shops in a short sleeved shirt and a corker helmet. i felt as though i was setting a bad example (not intentional).

I was hawking and got outbid at the very last second!

So much excess oil could well be the root of your problems, take it for a spin after you've checked and cleaned air-filter (as others have suggested). Let us know how you get on but I'm betting that (fingers crossed) oil will be well!
