  • That is a nice laptop though.

If the forums rate it and It's better for what you want it for go for it also the fact it's cheaper should be good for the client?

  • Just discovered 'Malibal Lotus' - saw it mentioned on forums before but it was always mis-spelt as Malibu.

    http://www.malibal.com/boutique/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=525

Seems VERY similar to the configurations at xoticpc where I was looking at getting the Sager. To the point of having the same cooling paste and removable branding options.

The sager + malibal look lovely and top notch for gaming but just concerned they're slightly too plasticky.

Wish I could find a UK reseller to have a play with one.

  • just concerned they're slightly too plasticky.

this the the blight of the 'gaming' laptop, the lenovo is a portable workstation really hence why its more sturdy

  • Aha! The reason for the similarities is that they're basically the same laptop.

A "Clevo" - and sager/malibal build on them.

What's good about this is that the Clevo is available buildable in the UK branded as a 'vortex III'.

  • You can spec that up very nicely for just under 2k

  • Which is lovely as there's a 3k kitty from the client for it : )

  • 3It's painful to think of the amount of power 3k could buy you in a desktop. In fact with that budget you could spend 2k on the laptop and get a very nice desktop for 1k

  • Good suggestion... i'll ask.

  • Ha ha - completely correct.

    You could spec that up for 2k - Top i7 3920, 8GB Kingston hyper x, GTX 675M

Then still have 1k for a fantastic home pc.

  • I prefer the Tiswas option.

  • In that case buy a £200 notebook spend 2.8k on hookers.

  • How much hook can get for that much money?

  • Met up with a London based reseller of the Clevo on Saturday to see one in action. It's fractionally less solid than the Lenovo. But I was still very impressed. It's got great cooling on it for a laptop. But is pretty big/heavy to what I'm used to.

    Placing the order tomorrow.

  • you need more than 32gb ram

  • At least 192GB in this day and age.

Though seriously... if you don't run virtual machines, you'll never use more than only a couple of GB.

  • Thanfully Win Pro covers up to 192. I was panicking for a second....

  • won't you just have to upgrade the spec to run windows 8 when the retail version is released?

  • Common question I guess, I'm thinking about buying a second hand laptop and I'm after some advice.

I've just got a netbook at the moment, and while I love it, the size is just a bit too much of a pain sometimes.

    Use: **

    • Internet.
    • Music.
    • A bit of iplayer-type stuff.
    • No games, ever.
    • Word processing.

    Wants:

    • Relatively light.
    • Relatively thin (ideally very)
    • Sensible sized screen 14/15" (I'd guess).
    • Cheap.
    • Not an HP.
    • Not a Sony.
    • Not too slow.

    Do not need

    • Disc drive.
    • Huge amounts of storage/hard drive (at least I don't think I do?)

My dad has a Samsung x420 which I really like because it's got good battery life and it's fairly light and slim... plus it seems to be good quality. So I am looking at those at the moment.

Does anyone have any other recommendations of similar laptops?

Is there anything that I should look out for when buying that I might not obviously think of or ask?

    Cheers.

Also I've got an oldish but decent at the time spec HP with a burnt graphics card that will always burn because of it's location. Does anyone have any use for it, or any suggestions on what to do with it?

  • ibm x200 (or even the x60, if you dont too spend much). I have an x60, so believe me when i say its what you want

  • I have about £600 for a gaming PC (excluding monitor / peripherals etc)... any recommendations on spec?

    Don't mind building it myself.
