  • Fred, how long you going to be at LMNHs? Work may keep me til 930. Unless I get there a 7am.

  • Oh, and laner also wants in. Too lazy to say so tho.

    LANER!!! LANER!!!

  • Too late now but you can just buy 3 of the Chinese lights (for the same money) and mend/bodge/bin those which fail or develop faults.

what chinese lights? have a link?

  • Yep, id like to drop a bag off. Chain breaker I can take small bag for you to lmnh

  • what chinese lights? have a link?

Search ebay for the SSC-P7 LED. The emitters change regularly so there maybe newer/better ones now. Also take a look at the torches and bike light section of dealextreme.com.

Also talk to mountainbikers that ride year-round in the woods. They're always sorted for cheap, bright lights.

  • Tim, you and I had a sociable piss in a field last year. I used to see you around Streatham/Balham on your old pink bike quite a bit. I'll say "hi" properly this year.

  • I'm eschewing "performance nutrition" this year and going down the Randonnee catering route.

Aeropress, kettle, camping stove, and a Shooter's Sandwich to keep me company. http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/gallery/2010/apr/07/how-to-make-shooters-sandwich

Last year I swapped some batteries and a cup of coffee for a chunk of home-made Biltong. That's why the Dun Run is one of my favourite rides.

  • Greetings AlexB,

Er guilty as (dis)charged, on such a long ride there will probably be plenty more...

    Good luck to you.

    Peace and Love,
    Tim

That sandwich! Truly a gift from the Gods!

  • For TFCALIRTAB list and those who intend on being foolish chancers: I reckon we’ll depart at 9pm.

I will have a sign, because why not, standing around somewhere near the pub on the park for a while before then. I think I put my mobile number in a PM so if you can’t see me send me a text and I’ll tell you where I’m at. PM me if you want it now and aren’t on the list. I hope to go at around 15 mph, maybe slightly more, maybe slightly less as I only have one gear and am not a fucking hero.

If Rod Munch can join and decides to forgo the coach, we’ll have a Garmin route for the way back. If no RM then I think there will be a selection of cribbies we can choose from (I’ll have some, Eamsey and maybe one or two others). The beach turnaround will be 15 minutes tops because longer than that and we’re playing with fire and/or fried breakfasts and grouphugs and grab-ass and snuggly coachrides.

For those who get to the beach, change their minds and take the coach, I salute you – for wisdom hath no name but for the person who knows their limits.

TL;DR Leaving at 9. See how you feel at the beach as there’s probably way back if your courage outweighs your sense.

  • ^Thanks for being so organised. I'm looking forward to this, but do not be surprised if I bail to the nearest train station at any point on the way back.

Might have a go at making that Shooter's Sandwich too...

  • fluffybanuffynut sandwich ftw.... as created by lolabelles..
that shooters sandwich has bunny chow written all over it ;-)

  • Oh yeah, I'm on the TFCALIRTAB list aren't I. Um, yeah 9 sounds ok, tho it does make it a bit tight for last orders at the Fox in Finchingfield (especially if there is a delay getting served at the pub in Moreton).

  • +1 on the shooters sandwich, had a go at one a while back, very tasty, not sure I'll have a chance to put one together before the ride tho.

  • Hi peoples, I've got a spare coach ticket if anyway wants one, can't make the ride anymore unfortunately. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

  • Important message about coach tickets -

    Loads of enquiries about this...

As it states in the FAQs and the acknowledgment of payment page you should have seen during payment, your coach tickets will be allocated to you when you come and collect them from us at the pub in the park on Saturday, not before.

You'll need to give us the name used during payment process.

    Many thanks!

  • Is it a good idea to take part in a spontaneous century in the opposite direction tomorrow eve?

I'm thinking no, but I need a second opinion..

  • ^^^^ I don't know what to say to that. Bon courage! As for me the beer comes at the end....

  • Hey there!

This is my first year doing the DD. Unfortunately not on my SS either due to breakages and cash shortages, (I only live in London vicariously through these forums). Is anyone travelling up from St. Pancras to the start park?

Also if anyone on here is called Leo Wood (s?) your Mum said I should look out for you! :D

    Ta!

  • ^ Ha!!!!

  • Cute ^^

  • Leo Wood, you here?!

  • His Mum says he is gorgeous, which was the entire description I got.

    Mothers, gotta love 'em.

Seriously though I've got no idea what I'll be doing when I get to London, looking forward to the ride!

  • I'll bet Leo would.

Episcopalian Jihad: If you need a hint about finding your own way there ... I would suggest you get an A to Z map to help you if you get lost ... first head up Pentonville Road, straight onto City Road, left on Old Street at the roundabout, straight over onto Hackney Road, left at Hackney City Farm, head straight at Broadway. It's about 4 or 5 miles. The route I have given is busy but on a Saturday evening should be OK, and is an easily navigable route, if not absolutely direct it's close enough.

  • Thanks Skully. In fairness it doesn't look much of a trek on Google maps. I'm just being a pansy.
