I'm designing something similar to this, it's not going to be as pretty, but made out of bmx cro-mo tubing. I'll start with a one-off prototype and then try to get a short batch of them done if anyone is interested (hopefully around £250 for F&F)

Well I have a front carrier at the moment that fork/handle bar mounted. I get a decent amount on it and it's above a 700c wheel. It's quite necessary when there's a child on the back of the bike. I'm beginning to wander if frame mounted would be more stable.
Yeah, when the carrier is frame mounted, it remains stationary as the bars turn, therefore you cannot have anything that is at the same height or higher than the bars otherwise you will not be able to turn the bars & will crash badly!
Frame-mounted carriers are way more stable than h/bar mounted, however.

Been thinking about this. My Mundo (still waiting on new drop-out adaptors to be machined. Been otherwise finished for a month :( ) has frame braze-ons for a serious front rack. But with my lowish stack height, is it really that usable?
I have two kids on the back, one of which in a full child seat. So not much room back there. I have mounted some fittings for triple straps, so I can place some panniers bags sideways on the side rails securely. But still want moar!
Reckon my bars are roughly the same as the pic. But I have a striaght 17deg rise ahead stem, and zero rise bars.
Hardly seems worth it.

I want a massive front disc brake.
Does having a fatbike not enable you to go for such sizes?
For what its worth. I ended up fitting a 203mm disc to the front and a 180mm to the rear. With the Speed dial 7 levers allowing for perfect adjustment, its a super solid set-up.

Why the hell isn't Brompton or someone in the UK getting into cargo?!

• #432
exactly, buy one from me ;)

Small furry, go for the front rack. You can pile so much stuff on there and it's not too unstable once up to speed.
I've found it brilliant having mine. You'll be able to put anything on it, whereas the pannier bags will be quite limited for big oddly shaped things. Imagine going out for a picnic say, and having a cool box full of beer. Where will you put that? Front Rack.

Yeah! Good luck to you...

no need for luck, just initiative.

Thinking about it.
I looked at the mundo last night, and my bar height gives some clearance, and I can move my dynamo light down to a Vee-brake mount.
This is the rack. Its huge!
-

You can mount the dynamo light on the rack. Do it.

Fork would be easier, as I have enough lead already. I'm all done doing complex shite on this build.
That's a nice looking basket. Huge, though?
Quite large?

Isn't that front basket a bit big?

I would be interested in this, but only after a test-ride.

Great, I'll keep you posted. Cheers Bill.

Some people are. On the 14th July, there will be a meeting in Cambridge of the European Cycle Logistics Federation, including a good few UK representatives. Loads of presentations are planned.

I just registered to go to this, thanks for the info, shame I don't think my prototype will be ready by then.

You could take a prototype of the prototype?

Larry vs. Harry is about to get some competition in Copenhagen.
Messenger legend, Jumbo's new prototype for his Omnium Cargo:
Here is what google claims he says about it:
"Very inspired by bilenky. Have added some improvements. The platform is mounted with bolts, so you can mount other things rather than let go with it. Disc bracket so you can mount the luggage carrier. 700c rear wheel and 451 front wheel. Lower center of gravity. Steeper head tube and fork, and not least that it is going to be sold much cheaper than a bilenky. The plan is to come div assesories, bla child seat mounting rail. Semi Soft top, cover with pockets.
There is also a short-like prototype John in the pipeline." -

That definitely look shorter than the LvsH, that alone would be a great improvement.
-
• #449
Smallfurry- what panniers are those? I am after some for my Mundo?
