  • Although I have been offered participation in tax schemes, I have lways refused to go along with thembecause I believe that if one earns sufficient money one can afford to pay tax. This is my personal view and affects me and me alone. Others may choose to do differently.

The Government are, however, on thin ice in running their campaing against the immorality of tax avoidance. From the days of Magna Carta, it has been an accepted principle of our constitution that there should be no taxation without legislation. If the legislation is inadequate, it must be amended through further legislation. The Government cannot tax at will. Given the tax dodges used by many Conservative donors, and nodoubt by many within the Government, I think that Cameron should be very quiet and start studying tax law and improving the legislation. If Thatcher got one thing right it was to simlify tax legislation. The simplification reduced the ability of clever lawyers and accountants to find and exploit loopholes.
