just checked the dipstick and now i feel like one!
the oil level is way over what it should be, way over that amount that you normally just shrug off and say "its okay, it'll burn that off on the next journey"
what damage can be done by excess oil? just so i know.
there is still alot less oomph and a definite clutch slip ting going on..
at the moment its not the same motorcycle that was bombing through france and weaving through belgium at 105 mph earning myself the name adonis.
thank you markyboy and vanuden for the checking tips
it has been drinking lots of oil recently. the mileage is 65,000
congratulations jambon
So you've accidentally over filled it at some point? Putting too much oil in generally shouldn't be too bad, however with more in the same size space you'd expect the oil pressure to rise. At worst you could blow a seal (no nautical jokes) or a gasket. Either of which you'd probably notice as an oil leak. Can you put a pan under the sump and just loosen the plug and drain a bit off until the levels are back to what they should be? Try that and see if it makes any difference.
This could be why you're burning oil because some is getting through into the cylinder due to the rise in pressure. Is it a wet clutch? 65,000 isn't much for a BMW (Boxer as in horizontal twin?) so I'd be surprised if it was worn rings or valve guides. When you say it's been burning lots of oil recently can you elaborate?
