Does Armourtex offer translucent power coating? I would like something like this but on
titanium instead of chrome: -
• #1053
I think they can do a silvery powder coat with a transparent colour lacquer. That ^ will be chrome with coloured lacquer. i.e. much shinier.
-
• #1054
can they put the colour lacquer straight on the brushed metal?
-
• #1055
Don't see why not.

excellent

will need some persuading though, recently they stopped doing that as apparently it doesn't last for too long without rusting.

make sure you take off everything including the bb and the crown race (or get a shop to do it) otherwise they will turn you away....

Hi,
Does the price of powdercoating a frame include the forks too?
Cheers -
• #1066
yes.

Those candy colours look good; about a million times better than 'solid colour with sparkle lacquer' aka 'little girl's pencil-case'.
When did they start doing these, have they got any more, and how much does it cost - anyone know? As always, their website doesn't reveal much.

I've got an old nickel-plated frame which is a bit pitted and has some steel showing through around BB area.
Sand-blasting won't get rid of the plating but could provide a better base. Will powder-coating work over nickel-plating?

I've just done my own clearcoat using POR-15 industrial/marine paint.
The finish isn't as professional as perhaps I'd like but it does show up the brazing and lugs on the 40 year old frame.

Nice! Looks like an old road/path frame, the bare look bare suits it. Just needs an old Brooks saddle/bartape combo for maximum bygone days of yore gravel track when I was young all this was fields ration book Doris Day murda chic.

i love that frame done like that so much. looks amazing in person, i'm the guy that talked to you outside waitrose in cheltenham. i really like the combination of modern and old style parts on that build.
what gear ratio is that? and what is that gear ratio for? -

what gear ratio is that? and what is that gear ratio for?
34x14 gives 2 ratios on the S2 hub of 64" and 87" intended for keeping up with a chaingang on nice road bikes at work around the lanes.
I can (used to be able to) get up most hills on 64" and I can pedal at 30mph in a group (if I have to) on 87".

Just got this email from Armourtex if anyone is interested in latest prices / info:
Armourtex cycles is now open,we have a fully equipped cycle shop offering spares and our own new custom built bikes, also repair bays with fully trained mechanics that will do everything from a full strip down (for respray) to removal of small parts that you may find difficult i.e.. bottom bracket or head set.
The charges for strip down, service ,Punctures or other repairs to bicycles are available from our shop manager 0208 986 2028.
The powder coating charges are as follows:
We will remove all the old paint, shot blast, prep and mask your frame prior to powder coating.
The prices including vat are as follows Steel frames are £59.25 or £75.25 with a further powder coated Lacquer.
Aluminium prices are slightly more £65.50 and £82.00. We do a few more expensive colours or metallic lacquer which cost more.
Should you require extra components powder coated the same colour as the frame and forks then they will be priced up per item i.e a seat post would be £6.00, if you want additional components in a different colour then the price will be an extra £49 as this is our min charge per colour.
The advantages of having a lacquer coat on the frame are that it will look nicer and be easier to keep clean, the lacquer is also quite hard wearing. You can not have decals put under the lacquer coat as this also requires heat to cure.
The turn around times for steel frames is usually 3 working days, Aluminium frames are 5 days. there is no need to phone and pre book, just come to our reception any time Monday to Friday am to pm, or on a Saturday 10am to 4pm.
Further information and an RAL colour chart can be found on our web site www.armourtexltd.co.uk . We do not stock all RAL colours but our range is quite extensive and we have samples on display in our cycle shop to help you with your colour selection.
You can send your frame to us with all instructions and contact details we will return your frame by courier once paid for in full. (courier charges to most uk locations are currently £20 +vat)

Jolly Pop Red! catchy name.
I'll probably go for lime metallic green on the TFG Dream Machine with it's modification.
Should look nice with hand painted decal.

Might go in and have a look at the colours, thinking about picking up a cheap beater track ends frame and making it a bit nicer, since all my geared bits are coming together for the bj
asked them this last time, guy just smiled at me and said no-can do..
