  • I'm not sure he is actually, so I've removed the 'still'. The name's definitely familiar though.

  • Yeah did a search and can't find him on there

  • Oh shit, I've just remembered why the name is familiar:

Shit Tom, he's a very naughty boy! Needs a little visit sometime, what a shame he left the following on the parcel: -

  • ^Necessary? I understand he's a cunt but publishing address? You do come from a country where The Sun publishes unblocked images of purpetraitors not yet proven guilty, but I think it is a bit too much..

  • Please remove the address, the guy is a cunt, but, if you play at his level you really are no better.

  • All I can say is thanks for highlighting a snide move, not in the spirit of the forum

  • Point taken lads about the address, was a littler bit angry, but I understand where you are coming from.

  • I tend to keep clear of this thread for many reasons, but have to say that without mentioning any names... there are an awful lot of time wasters... both sellers and buyers... what's the matter with some of the people of this forum... really frustrating fucking frustrating!!!

  • Hello,

I bought a fixed back wheel from a forum member which I knew was pretty worn. But in person before buying the wheel, I explained I was a cycle courier and that's what I would be using it for this. The selling said, it would be fine.

After two minutes of using it, the lock ring popped off and it later turned out that the thread was completed destroyed and he had, inadvertently or otherwise, provided me with a very dangerous back fixed wheel.

Has anyone ever had a similar issue when buying a second hand part from LFGSS, and if so, do you know if the forum offers a similar type of buyer protection as Ebay, for example, or whether or not there might be another option if communication with the seller has broken down.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • try and speak to the seller privately first if you get no response and no come baack flame them publically and let the mob take over hounding said seller out of town ( off the forum )

  • UTFS, this is covered in detail elsewhere. There are also bad and good trader threads if you're worried about someone in particular.

Sometimes shit just happens though huh?

  • Two minutes!? That's crap.

  • yeah i know skully, but was this two minutes of full-on locked rear wheel smokin' action, or two minutes of sedate cruising? to take a worn wheel and just sling it on without more than a cursory check is somewhat naïve, especially if it involves one's livelihood.

  • After two minutes of using it, the lock ring popped off and it later turned out that the thread was completed destroyed and he had, inadvertently or otherwise, provided me with a very dangerous back fixed wheel.

Didn't you check the thread and lockring before buying or riding it?

  • ^ this. In this scenario it would seem to me that the cycle courier ought to have been the 'expert' in the transaction (unless the seller held themselves out as such?), and to have relied on a glib statement by the seller...

  • That's the nature of private 2nd hand. You can save money but the price is zero warranty

  • do you know if the forum offers a similar type of buyer protection as Ebay, for example, or whether or not there might be another option if communication with the seller has broken down.

What the hell? It's a community, not a babysitting service!

Two words for you, then some chevrons:

    CAVEAT EMPTOR

    Totally agree, wise words!

  • Awaits Tiswas and The Sale of Goods act.

  • hey thanks, very wise indeed. Not sure what you mean by babysitting service, but really mainly concerned by how dangerously this seller acted. Sure i checked it out by test riding it. They were broken so i asked for a refund.... what would you do, or how would you test them?

  • no, im not a bike mechanic, im a bike courier

  • i checked them out later before test riding them and actually ask for a refund, he then insisted nothing was wrong with it so i test rode it and it broke instantly, naturally i contacted him about a refund again. i actually said i would take less money back the first time for the inconvenience, cant be more fairer really, truth is he should have dumped the wheel, not posed as an honest person and conspired ripped someone off
