You've got to come over that ridge at some point, and there aren't many easy options. The easiest way up is the B2024 from Westerham which never really gets steep, but you have to go out of your way a bit to get to it.
Another option is to modify your route out of Lingfield and head up through Tandridge, turn left on the A25, first right and head up Tandridge Hill Lane. It'll be rough after all this wind and rain recently though.
