Do they have a wedding list? Unfortunately if they do there is likely to be only expensive stuff left as the cheaper stuff tends to go fairly quickly, however it always worth a try.
Otherwise, it all comes down to how good a friend they are and how much money you have to spend. I always try to go for something thoughtful that the bride will like (you always want to aim the gift at the bride) John Lewis has some really nice crystal vases at the moment, and will gift wrap. Don't forget to ask for a gift receipt.
