Cheers for your advice, and your general 'better safe than sorry' tone has probably stopped me rushing off and potentially wasting my money.
I decided to go and try on all of the ones that I could rather than buying ones I thought might fit online. Sidis weren't really an option in the end, and Mavic Avenirs, despite their strange ideas on sizing (UK 12 = EU 47.33, UK 13 = EU 48.67), seem to fit alright in a 12. Interestingly,* the Mavic Razors, which are basically Avenirs but with the MTB sole, were a little tight in a 12, but the Avenirs fit just right.
