  • Why I switched from electric to safety razor:

    • cheaper in the long run (factoring in cost of replacement screens/cutters)
    • makes it a pleasant ritual, rather than a chore
    • closer shave with less irritation, once technique dialled in
    • actually takes me about the same time, as electric shaving needed 10 minutes of going over and over and over…
    • prep is the same: bath or shower first, or nothing
    • the build up of stale sweat / skin on an electric razor, even if cleaned fairly rigorously, is not very healthy or pleasant

I went the other way, from blades to electric because it's

    • cheaper in the long run (factoring in cost of replacement blades and razors)
    • makes it a pleasant ritual, rather than a chore
    • it's not as close a shave but chicks love my 5'oclock shadow and I found there was more irritation with razors than electric unless I waited too long (3-4 days) before doing an elec shave.
    • Daily electric shave for me takes about 1-2mins, razor was longer as I only shaved in the shower and then struggled to get everything with no mirror so I'd have to go back to bits.
    • Never noticed any buildup of anything except hair which I never bother to clean out and don't care about. Razors included blood and pimple pus and hair so aren't much better.
