something tells me that he was using a lockring...
What reasons are there for not running one?

Any ideas what would be a good price on the Cannondale track, I'm moving to the states soonish. Wife is a yank and wants to return home, this could be a lovely moving present, I usually ride a 55 square would this be too small?

Garmin 800 is miles better, easier to use and calculates routes at a decent rate
my 700 just infuriated me, i could cycle from Kew to Bermondsey and it would spend the entire time recalculating the route, never actually being of use
K, I appreciate the help. Will keep saving for an 800 then.

What reasons are there for not running one?
being able to change sprocket quickly between races

I'm sure you don't have so much time pressure that you can't remove a lockring.

still it is a reason. and if you are only running on a track then you dont need one. if it is not a need then why bother?
-
• #41433
In theory you don't need a lock ring on the track as you'll never be resisting the drivetrain hard enough to undo the sprocket.

In theory you don't need a lock ring on the track as you'll never be resisting the drivetrain hard enough to undo the sprocket.
and if you have a mechanical like dropping your chain and getting it wedged on the seat tube, the sprocket will unscrew and you can coast to a stop, rather than getting forced into a skid or chucked off. Especially useful if it happens while you're riding in a group.

What are people's thoughts on the dent in the frame? I've read (on here and elsewhere I think) that you can get dents out of steel frames with something cold like a can of compressed air turned upside down...

^I tried to take a dent out of my car boot with liquid CO2 (Plumbers pipe freezing spray) not a success Unfortunately
Theory is that the metal contracts and dent pops out. If there's been plastic deformation of the metal it may pop out when cold, but will go back again as it reaches ambient temperature.
Worth a punt though for the price of a can of pipe freeze.
The traditional fix is brass (brazing rod) melted into the dent and filed/sanded back. -

^^Reckon he'll take £300 for that and the matching wheelset.
That stem though, urgh.
Not too keen on the wheels either, track bikes need more flange. Don't really like the cranks either, it's a lesson in how to make Campag look like Create.
Beautiful frame needs saving!
