So, in our final game on Saturday we drew 1-1, I scored our only goal of the game. It was really hard sitting around all day and then be ready for a single game, against a team who needed the win as much as us. Because of that it was a fairly defensive game from both teams.
So we were knocked out before the elim. That's the first time that has happened to me in a long time, and it was a bit of the downer.
But then Sunday started, and I got to watch lots of polo.
Edisons dominated, winning every game, and across the whole weekend won every game except one (us).
They were a class above everyone else, though Monkey Punch gave it a very good shot, and after losing in the first round battled all the way through the losers bracket to the final, to finish second behind Edisons.
Third place were Eiernacken (Danny and Daniel Bambule with Hannes). They had been very strong all weekend, some crazy goals from those guys. If that's a lineup that continues they'd be a team to watch out for.
Fourth place were Kurze Lunte, another Berlin team, with Rik and Nico Bambule. They also played really well, and Nico was MVP, apart from Eddy, in my mind.
Joint fifth were Hazers (Daniel 3pmh's team), and Ba Boon (Shadowman's team).
A lot of teams are in a process of change at the moment, Toros, Tough Shit & Clowns couldn't get lineups together, the various Bambule players need teams, Robert, Edison's permasub, needs a long term team too, so it will be interesting to see what teams come out of Germany in the next year.
Overall an awesome weekend (apart from our own results), the location is simply amazing, everyone called it the polo festival, I've never been to a tournament from Friday to Sunday, and only left the courts to go to the supermarket to get food for the BBQ.
I was talking to the organisers, and have been trying to get them to put on a international tournament, hopefully it will happen at some point.
