Long story...
Was riding home from SE with ...... when a car came beeping up close behind. I turned around and give the finger at which point the car overtakes and pulls in to the left, as if to stop. ...... then takes offence to this and tries to take out their wing mirror, falling off in the process.
I'm right behind and had already started to speed up to get outta there so as he goes down I go head over his Pompino. Stoved the front end in on the Roberts, pretty much broke the down tube and the top tube is buckled badly. Fucking Pompino is undamaged.
Few bruises and such but all minor when compared to the beating we could have taken from the driver and his mate. As it was the mirror was already broken and they were satisfied that the fall was karma enough. Very lucky as in our dazed and limping state we would have been easy targets.Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Fell off my road bike this morning on A road I didn't know in the wet downhill. Thinking back now I know what a bell end I was being taking it to fast. Nothing to serious just a few cuts and bruises falling off hurts!!!

The beeping cars are annoying. One of my cycling mates picked up a horn that sounds like a field of 1,000,000 angry crickets, of course only works against cars if they have a window down.

I got car doored pavement side by a guy getting out of a taxi whilst still in the middle of the road. I was probably going a little fast, but who does that?
All I could hear during my 1.5 m notice period was the taxi driver shouting "don't open the door".
Buckled front wheel. Bent forks. Drops that looked like they were trying to meet in the middle.

driver controls doors with brakes.
driver fail.
passenger fail.
your road positioning fail.
have you considered cycle training?
hope you're ok.

Not being over defensive and happy to hear what you have to say on this front, but it seems to me that cyclists are encouraged to ride on the inside, especially when the position of cycle paths is considered. I'm not one to squeeze through tight gaps on the inside and will happily move to primary position and/or overtake where necessary. This taxi was a metre or so out in the road and stationary. Is this still an error of positioning on my part?
I got away with a few cuts and bruises luckily.

make sure the plum exiting cab has to fork up for your troubles
hope you got all details -
• #61
My understanding is that the driver not the passenger is liable for the dooring
Hope you have the details to make a claim.
+1 to what smiff and tiswas said

The overzealous door opener was a decent guy and actually very willing to take care of all the repairs so I really can't fault him on that front. He also gave me cash for a cab to wherever I needed to get to.
I'm not sure what I'd have done if it was some clueless tourist or if they'd done a runner. -

I'd be interested to know whether the driver and / or passenger admitted guilt or apologised at the time?

Lets get this straight regardless of your position on the road if the passenger of the taxi doored you on the road they have committed a legal offense and are liable for any damage to yourself and the bicycle.
Did you get the cabbies license details?Zebs

The passenger immediately admitted fault and as such I didn't get the drivers details. Had he not, I would have had the reg and licence of the taxi.
The driver was very quick to point out that he had told the passenger not to get out just fractionally too late. I didn't get a chance to check whether the door sustained any damage.
i have never had an accident involving a car. been riding in london all my life.
only accidents i have had in recent history have involved beer+kerb; idiot pedestrian; going too fast round corner in the wet...
