I've only ever had one Miche BB. I refuse to touch the horrid stuff ever again.
I used the old shimano tool - the one that removes the 7speed blocks

I seem to own ALL the bb tools, but still have yet another to buy!
Whilst on the subject... are SRAM gxp BBs and Shimano external things interchangeable? and do they use the same tool?

Same tool, also fits Truvativ Hussefelt "too big to fit in the shell" BBs.
You want a Park BBT-9.
-
• #62312
yes.
The one in my kit is for Shimano, yet I installed Omniums with it.
cheaper to Park tools, it appears in here too http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=biS&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=ice+toolz+kit&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1113&bih=583&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=13955050591792846364&sa=X&ei=LjrRT4ydBuem0QXvhYE2&ved=0CJ0BEPMCMAA

Same tool.
Ok, thanks.

Also FWIW it seems Hollowtech II and Sram GXP are not compatible/interchangeable.

Finished doing the vivalo pantographing, need to sort out a chain and some wrap+plugs for the bars
Has a fair bit of dura ace but is by no means an NJS build prepares to get flamed
Couldn't get the image to embed with rotation correct but you get the gist of it!
you need a shorter stem so you can actually use those bull horns.

really? My hollowtech BB tool seems to fit my Sram GXP bottom bracket with no problems.
-
• #62317
I think he means the actual BBs. I seem to remember the GXP has some kind of bearing/seal related centering system?
I've only run Shimano, FSA and RaceFace in my Shimano external BBs.
-
• #62318
^^you're probably right sumo,
but I'm quite lanky so I'll see how it goes! -
• #62319
^^ Yep.
So options for GXP crank compatable BBs seem to be;
SRAM Team
Hope (with an adapter)
Chris King
Superfly
???I'm thinking I will probably just go with the 2012 SRAM, it sounds like they're better than they used to be. Hope are about £70, but not without their own issues (according to the internet).

why not just get a sram gxp one?

What do you mean?
-
• #62322
It's essentially a conventional fixed axle BB but the bearings are carried outside the shell, like external BBs do except the part outside the shell is twice as big as a normal external BB.

Like I said I think I will. I'm just looking into options as I'd heard enough bad things about older GXP BBs.

do you no where i can buy one ?
Ask in the shop for a Shimano cassette lock ring tool, e.g. Shimano TL-FW30, Park FR-5 etc.
-
• #62325
this is the bb i need to remove
I've got the Campy BB/lockring tool in my hand and it looks like it would fit that perfectly, but also have the Shimano lockring remover too (which looks totally different to the old shimano BB tool, which I also have).
But I is based waaay out west of London, in a sunny little suburb called ashford, which is actually a complete shit hole.
But if you're anywhere near that end of town you're welcome to come and use mine mate, but I fear that buying one would probably be cheaper!
This should do it, if you're sure its the Campy one you need - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=32406
My older Miche branded BB took shimano cassette tool, not campag.
