  • Watching road cycling at the roadside is a bit shit though isn't it?
depends how pissed you get.. i did see flanders pro race roll thro' at three different spots in and around oudenaarde in 2011, then got wrecked at a pub to see the finish on a big screen

  • good luck 'dan sounds like a mission, i reckon putney bridge will be heaving.. best to watch from richmond park outwards if you want to catch the race at more than one spot.. and plan a ride which avoids the course... security on the route will be tight #shoottokill

Fair point, it might be harder to do this than at the ToB. just as well there are plenty of miles of road to find a spot but I'm still open to being scuppered by security.

That's why I'm doing a ride, rather than paying to sit on Box hill. Ideally I'll get 40-50 miles in and get to see the race fly by with a couple of picknick stops on less popular bits of the course.

  • Would be good for a forum meet up and ride to catch the race in a couple of places...hoping to watch a bit early on with family then catch another bit a little later on- that's my well formulated plan!

  • i was thinking that but I havent decided if I'm going to go for the Men's, Women's or both.

The chances are that the women's race will be more broken up so could be better for watching live.

  • I intend to do both...

  • Channel 4 News has some information about the road race. Nothing which will come as a surprise to those who know the area, I imagine.

Their graphic artist went out and did the course. He posted a blog about it too.

Edit: He really needs to run a spell checker against that blog post

  • Going to have a go at this today, with a mate (who does proper mileage) doing it on his fold-up !?

  • just stick in his wind for the whole ride preserve your energy, and outsprint him down the mall

  • Box Hill is closed to all traffic and walkers today mate.

  • Box Hill is closed to all traffic and walkers today mate.

No worries, if it's closed - we offroad !

Nope - we'll just be doing what is open - interspersed with stops @ cafe's/pubs !

  • Saw a French team car in Deptford with their posh bikes on top of the bmw estate last night while riding home. They seemed lost.

  • Phil Gil has pronounced Box Hill a "big ring" climb

  • That's hardly surprising as it is a big ring climb.
The gradient is only 5% (The often quoted 14.6% is on two of the hairpins and lasts all of 3 metres).

  • one of the ukraine riders, doing a quick lap to test out his new gears, just round the corner from athletes village

    Keep up mate !

  • Aw yeah!

  • east london massive
    RESPECT

  • The shoes, dear god I just noticed the shoes.

  • ^ lmfao

  • I'm genuinely belly laughing at that pic. It just needs a gold chain.

  • Just back from Hampton Court, Swiss team in hotel near bridge. Saw members of them in terrace, although cannot confirm if Cancellara was having a full English with fried bread.

  • Hey, its just like when the Tour was here and people out for a ride bumped into one of the teams lost in Essex.

Any one else spotted on Leyton High Rd ?

  • I've just been given a ticket to Box hill. Cant wait.

    Epic Win>>>>>>>>>>

Fabian posted a pic from the bridge there last night. I rode out and back to the hill to spy... I saw nowt much.
