That's my plan, but I haven't looked into it yet in any great detail. I believe there are also trains from Marylebone.

Went on a training ride last night, over Shooters hill etc. Got some nice strava results, very pleased with myself. On the down side, my knee is totally screwed. I really dont want to bail on this ride but its looking like the smart option right now. Will decide in the next couple days
Doth anyone have a spare ticket?
You might be in luck... Will PM you

If benjam doesn't take it I have a friend who definitely will.
Cheers,

That was mine too, I'm relying on the word of others that you can stick a bike on those trains ok.
I've not investigated the trains since the time i booked onto the ride, but i think they don't really take you anywhere near the HQ. If you can get a bike on the met line, that works out really well as far as I can remember
Also in the market for any spare tickets going around. Got a mate who'd like to get involved.

According to tfl you can definitely take a bike anywhere on the Met line at off peak times. My concern is about how early they start on a Sunday morning in order to get there for 8am. When I have more time I will look into it.

First direct train from Baker Street is 7.30, getting in at 8.20. The station looks like its about 2mins from HQ.
If you're on the long ride you're supposed to have left by 8.40, so if we get the 7.30 train, by the time we're at HQ, got signed on, had a few nervous trips to the bog, done the last minute paranoia check of brakes etc, should be on the road by 9, which will be fine i reckon.

This is what I thought. I actually emailed Eddie, the guy running it, and he said all should be fine. If need be he said roll to the front of the starting line and tell them you're doing the long one and they'll let you go.
See you on the train at baker street then. I'll be on a cannondale in luquigas colours (the bike, not me).

I'm officially out, knee injury has rendered me useless. Have passed my ticket onto Benjam. Enjoy it out there, hope you all have a great ride, the weather is looking intense, pack them electrolytes!

Cool, see you there. I'll be the pasty lanky guy with a crusty specialised.

I'm in.. will be riding my geared roadie but not fit so doing the short route - weather is surreal!
(looking for an official ticket to get myself a time - any other injured soilders out there?) -

^ Me too. This is my first sportive since doing my achilles... I like the weather, maybe the heat less so... ;)

Oh my fucking god - that was agony. Finally finished the 110 miler in 8.27, just glad to have made it.
Really good event but whoever came up with that route is an utter bastard.

Well done on getting through it.
A lateish start for me meant I was worried I wouldn't have time to finish the long route in time, so opted for the 75 miler instead. And it was tough. The heat was the biggest obstacle for me and I ran out of fluids with about 10 miles to go, so struggled right at the end.
A lovely day out though and, as you say, really good organisation.

Yep, was a top day out.
The sun was really brutal, but would much prefer that to rain! Having to ride into a headwind for the last 20 or so miles was a little unpleasant.
I thought that there were only a few hills that were real tear-jerkers, but the way the climbs just kept on coming really took its toll after a while. Came in with a riding time of 6h 25, stopped for about 15mins in total too. Tom - how did you get on? Did you manage to get home at a decent hour?
Smudgley - I'm the guy who chatted to you briefly on the way up that real fcuker of a hill about half way round (whileaf?). You sir, are bonkers. How did you fare for the rest of the day? Made my stomach turn a bit when i thought about doing that ride fixed.

6h 25 is great! Well done. I was very tempted to turn back and catch you up where we split, but very thankful I didn't towards mile 70. As you say, there were only a couple of ascents that really hurt, but it was relentless.
I got home to a water pistol ambush by my girls. A perfect day.
Good to see you again.

6.25 for the 110? If so that is great! I ended up stopping for about 30mins in total - couldn't face getting back on the bike for the final section. I have never sworn so much on the bike in my life - every time I saw a hill in the last third.

Hi Jim, finished in 7hrs 53min. It was brutal today and the heat really got to me. Just couldn't get enough fluids in. I had cramp from about half way which meant plenty of swearing and had to stop more than I would have liked. Descending was hard work and the potholes were everywhere.
Met another forummunger on the way round, sorry didn't catch your name.
Would I recommend doing this ride fixed.. no don't be so fucking stupid. Would I so it again, maybe but only if it's cooler.
This was my third year on fixed and by far the hardest.Well done to everyone that got round.

£20 WASTED.

And to cap off a perfect day, just won two BAFTA's! If only every Sunday was this good.
-
• #49
6.26 for the 110? That's really shifting! I did 8.03 with a few stops....one waiting for the water delivery at the second feed station!
What a great route though, and stunning weather....loved it! -

oh, and congrats on the BAFTAs TTM!
I meant I was actually going to do the route (the long one) this Sunday, the 20th. My plan is to pace it conservatively so that I know where I can push on the day of the event.
EDIT: I'm trying to convince a friend to do this with me. He's training for a Fireflies trip to the Alps, so hopefully can drag me around this. But if anyone else fancies it the more the merrier.
