  • Ummm

A little late hippy. You losing your touch.

Anyway, Im a little worried about riding carbon rails with my weight. Unless you can say you have one, then I will worry some more.

    No weight limit:

  • I am waiting on my contract to come through Tom, then im all game :-)

Though that Dolan is Fuck Ugly. No offence to those that ride one. Is there not one less king of the bell tower?

Neil £329?!?!!? Surely at that price an integrated one would be better.

If youre telling me the C64 has no weight limit, then Im sad I missed it.

  • Oh, and the Carbon Arione is 149g vs the 89g of the C64

The SLR with padding is 180g. So that is not a sensible purchase

  • My slr with padding is 136 I think?

What about one of the orient express crabon track frames? The ones with the extended seat tube (non aero) ?

  • 5 pages and no frame... You're worse than spotter!

I was actually about to say this but still....

    fuck you buddy.

  • So your SLR without padding is less than dammits £329 jobby?

No way am i riding a OE Crabon jobby with my weight on the road!

  • Dunno, all I know is it's comfy as hell.

  • deda make some nice carbon jobbies, so do profile... carbon bullhorns are nice, but pricey.

Do you think carbon bars are the best option for an ape hanger such as yourself? They won't take too kindly to being driven into a bus... Think my mash is somewhere around 7.5-8kg. Could easily be lighter with carbon fork steerer, seatpost, stem, bars, lighter pedals... But then I don't think I'd trust it the same.

Thought he was a saffa and not from Hartlepool?

  • and tester, please inform us of how strong a carbon chainring is and if it could be put to daily use on a fixie skidder

I wouldn't use one for skidding, but sensible riders get decent mileage out of them on TT bikes

The SLR with padding is 180g.

My slr with padding is 136 I think?

SLR is 135g±8% claimed, though I've not seen one that's in the minus section of the tolerance band
SLR XP is 180g claimed, I have one that's 175g

  • We need a target Iain, then we can work out component weights for that target.

6kg would be pretty straightforward I think, 5 kg would be challenging.

  • that depends...

  • Not sure what the frame set weighed, I sold it to sean off here, but it was pretty light considering the size
The ring ended up about £80 I think, I could have gone lighter for more cash but preferred the solid aero look for track

Ghetto weenie..hehe.. I duno about that, it still had carbon front wheel, schmolke bars etc.. Maybe back end ghetto weenie!

  • There's a 125g claimed SLR too that comes with no padding and ti rails. I haz but can't find pics.

Also SLR Kit Carbonio with carbon rails at 115g claimed.

    Stripped one..

Wouldn't a road frame converted into a single speed much lighter? I was about to do something like this and this was my build :
Van Nicolas Yukon Frame : 1.3kg
Ritchey wcs fork : 295g (uncut)
    Stem : KCNC 100g
    Handlebar : FSA K Force MTB flat - 109g
Brakeset : PX cnc - 205g for pair
    Brake lever : KCNC - 46g
    Cable : Alligator I-link - 20g
    Crankset : Sram Red - 680g
    BB : Sram
    Chain : Yumeya 9 speed - 240g
Wheels rear : Chub hub + Sapim CX Ray + PX carbon 20mm = around 550-600g
Wheels front : PX front hub + Sapim CX Ray + PX carbon 20mm = around 350-400g
Single speed conversion kit : forgot the name but found ones that are 50g
    Pedals : speedplay TI - 160g
    Seatpost : 3T Doric LTD - 140g
    Saddle : Selle Italia carbon - 81g
    Seatpost clamp : PX ti - 12g
    Bar Grip : KCNC : 16g

It's going to be very light..
well for stiffness not sure I weigh 65kg and more of a climber than a big sprinter.

  • Dammit, what scales do you have?

I think you have 1 x electronic Kitchen scale and 1 x hanging scale, right?

Determining the weight target will be difficult. You set yours based on the current legal competition limit based on a sport that happily has all the parts pre-weighed and actively produces light weight parts.

I am trying to form this based on a track machine, used on the road where weight is not a major consideration and WWs are frowned upon.

Maybe the idea would be to take my current bike, weigh it, and then see how light I can make it based on the information provided. Then for the fun of it, reduce the target weight to set the challenge (obv. to some sort of round number). This may or may not be more difficult than it looks because some people think my current bike is light, others dont.

    6 kg - easy
    5 kg - challenging
    4.5 kg - difficult

    4454g

    Big sprinter - LOL

Im not sure im happy using a road frame. Im resistant as I would like this to be a proper FG/SS bike. Something that hasnt been modified. This is LFGSS so I would like it to stay as close to that idea as possible

  • weighing my current bike, its roughly weighs about 6.2kg

  • Using the time honoured "stand on bathroom scales, subtract own weight" method?

  • yup:-)

    Very inacurate inaccurate

And right now I weigh about 89kg

  • Dammit, what scales do you have?

I think you have 1 x electronic Kitchen scale and 1 x hanging scale, right?

Yep, kitchen scales purchased for cooking duties and pressed into service for component weighing on an ad hoc basis, and the hanging scales (fish scales I think they are) I did buy for bike weighing.

I seen someone who came in work with a Planet X carbon jobbie with a white industries hubs, that bike was ridiculously light, skinny wheel, tune front hubs, tune seatpost and saddle, etc.

don't narrow your option to just track frame.

    ...

    That sounds like an excuse.

How much does Dammit weigh and when was the last time someone from the uci weighed his bike before a race? - Point is there is a method to why he chose that set of criteria, but he still just made it up.

Just choose 5kg with no rider weight limit and a budget of £2.5k and get on with it.

As for parts, the only one which gives you an "issue" is the frame*... which isn't really an issue as you can still use a road frame conversion, a Seta, or maybe even a stripped carbon road frame with new dropouts bonded on.

    • maybe you could argue a rear hub too, but even there you have ww choices.
  • single speed

    Sensible, but not fun.

  • Im not certain on the budget yet. But it will probably be on the medium to high end (only a guess)

Personally, Im not keen on riding a Full carbon track frame on the road. To many stories of them cracking. I think a light alu frame is the right direction.

My late 90's Daccordi weighs in at 1.3kg (F&F) if thats any help. it's some funky Alu business going on...

  • AFAIK track frame tend to be noticeably heavier than road frame, i.e. Pro-Lite Trentino weight around 1800g, LOOK 464's at 1600g, Dolan Precursa's 1800g, etc.

Some track frame says, the Cinelli Vigorelli weight a modest 1400g and have a longer headtube than average.
