Normally these are to be used with special cleats (super hard to find btw) but you can use them with regular shoes. Personnaly I use them with converse...

Appart from the saddle, seat post and headset all the parts are french (mavic stem, pedals crankset and wheels, sachs handlebars, brakes and gears, incl. ergopowers).
