  • Hi all, my first post here even though I always check the forum. My beater got stolen so I built another bike with a mix of budget parts + stuff I had laying around. I'd like to say it's finished — it rides great — but the pedals are just way too close to the road for my liking on a fixed gear. My previous bike was also a conversion but I didn't have that issue, and I suspect there's no easy way around it, is it? I never rode a crank with shorter arms so dunno if that's a good option. I'm tempted to fit a freewheel and a back brake and take out the retainers — or even just get another frame. Any advice appreciated.

  • go to 27" + 32c and you'll gain at least half an inch, maybe more. Also keep wheel as far forward in the dropouts as possible, that'll make a few mm of difference at the back end.

  • New roadbike project. First geared bike in 5 years.
I heard 979 dural was light but this was kind of ridiculous. Feels like picking up a bianchi ev4. Amazing shape for its age too.

Accumulating a mix of late 80s early 90s record/chorus parts to throw on this. Scored a pair of black shamals too that will hhsb this frenchie enough not to put me to shame around dalston.

  • dear lord that will look beautiful

  • ^^ Oh dear me, vewy nice!

  • Nice ! It looks like the one I ride when staying in Correze (it belongs to my father in law, I just thouroughly cleaned it from storage in a dusty barn):

  • wow they look really nice dont they. That one has a wishbone seat stay wich looks to suite the bonded joints even better. I wont be able to keep mine as classic as that however. I will train on it so it will have a long seatpost and ergo shifters :)

  • That's really nice. Nicely built up too.

  • love it

    will consider that, thanks

  • How long are your cranks?

  • How long are your cranks?

Hi Malaysian, it's 175mm center to center

  • There's your trouble. Switch to 165, you're already suffering from a low BB by using a road frame, long cranks are just making it worse.

  • This is my Holdsworth:

I like it more every time I ride it, but the paint and decals are a little tired:

The colour it is now is alright:

But I was thinking of treating it to a visit to Armourtex at some point and perhaps getting something a little different (assuming I could get a new set of decals easy enough). I like the idea of a sparkly dark silver, or a darker charcoal grey colour.

Does anyone have any strong opposition or better suggestions?

All I can say is that Steel 41 with Gloss laquer made me very happy:

yeah, i went to measure it now and compared with the crank of my other bike which is indeed 165. Might change cranks then, I picked this one up on Velorution's closing down sale and was quite happy with the bargain.

  • i really dont like 80s c record headsets without rubber races and dust guards :( why...

I got my Basso Lo-pro done at armourtex in black with a silver sparkle lacquer and it came out looking an awesome gunmetal grey kinda colour, I haz no pictures though...

  • The 853 Ribble I bought from Kboy is going to cease being a mongrel. Veloce 8sp, Zonda's and fair weather beckon.

you will like the whole frame even less now:

  • New wheels (dura ace 7850 c24 cl), Cannondale Si carbon cranks and Sram BB30 bearings arrived today ready for the conversion sometime next week.
With just the new wheels fitted it's weighing in at 7.6kg, and that's with a tiagra groupset.

oh I know how about the bonding process of these frames :) Read a lot on it and I've been convinced that it works fine for a rider my size.

  • me Pista again, looking much better now, with the panto'd stem, right pedals, a nice Concor saddle and some NOS toeclips

  • the chain looks a bit too tense, for the photo I am more pedal down, the nose saddle peak a little and I like when the bars is even less pointed ,the vittoria tubular is a bit sheep .... but porn front clearance peter V
    so close to be porn

  • I think thats the perfect pedal position, because its ready to be pushed down and ridden.
