Not since 2005, you can't.

Spotted on the Uni campus I work at:
Fag around frame and wheel, but not locked to anything! It was there the other day too, in seemingly exactly the same spot. Not sure if it's moved since then or been left. Ignore the large lock at the top, it's not attached to it...

We're not going far are we? I only locked my bike with a Kryptonite. You can unlock those things with a bic pen!
This is an issue that has long since been resolved.

Was in a rush so didn't stop to take a pic. But I saw a bike locked up with a tiny cable outside the dental school at King's College Hospital... and the killer is... the key was still in the lock. That person must have been in a bigger hurry than me.

Anyone noticed the stands at the British Museum? Seem very dubious, went and locked mine round the corner instead with two d-locks.

Whats with the flat tyre?

Why's it dubious?

The stands are. As the only bit you can lock onto is only about 10mm thick. This fixie skidder did the best they could, but the stands also make it impossible to double D-lock.

What a stupid stand. If your lock is any longer than a mini then you'd have to lock it on that tiny loop bit rather than risk having it lifted over the top. Terrible idea.

I'd probably attempt to lock it across two stands (rear wheel and frame to one and front wheel to the next one) but even then it's not ideal. Terrible design.

My (lack of) spatial awareness is telling me this one's debatable - could the lock be squeezed over the wheel?
-
• #2063
Who gives a fuck!? That bike's a fucking disgrace.
Sorry though, I love this thread so thanks for contributing. It's the thread that loves to hate.

It is indeed! Have to admit the only reason it caught my eye was because the locking looked dodgy. :)

Single speed, Drillium chainring, aero drop outs, ultralite pedals and levers
straight to porn IMO

Doesn't matter. Whip the front wheel off, slide the lock over the forks, depart with both wheel and frame.

• #2067
No one would take that even if it was unlocked.

Stealing a kids bike is a pretty pathetic thing to do.

Thank God you're here; there's an urgent need for your guidance in the Moderators thread.

Whats with the flat tyre?
All the air has escaped. Someone probably stole it. Thats why I lock my tyres up nice and tight.

I am like the hipster bars!

Has locked bike wrong, doesn't understand the stand!
-
• #2073
As discussed that is probably the most secure way to park using that stand.
-
• #2074
Probably a dumb question, but what is the 'proper' way to use those stands? i.e. How were they designed to be used?

From the looks of it aren't you supposed to slow your down tube into the black rubber bit?
