Nick Nack, wtf is your avatar? it's been bugging me for weeks but i keep forgetting to ask.
Went along to Otters yesterday for a session at QMSC. Really enjoyed it. 6 wide lanes, good varied set, good range of abilities including some seriously fast folk. A few training for the Olympics are regular attendees. Eeek. Anyway, signed up properly today. I am now an Otter.
As an aside, after Otters on a Sunday (and other days i'm sure) these guys were just starting. http://www.outtoswim.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=70
I may have led a sheltered life but I had no idea there was such a thing as a gay competitive swimming club. Fucking awesome. I do love living in a town where these things not only happen but, by all appearances, thrive.

Tiswas, what you using? I know everyone's face shape is different (duh) but i've honestly never found anything that works as well as Tyr Tracers. I have two pairs of the mirrored ones and one clear. Can wear then for hours without getting sore, they never leak, come off or steam up and they last for ages.
Had big goggle purge recently and threw out everything but a couple of sets of unused Swedish goggles and these. I think they look badass and they're cheap too.

^ there's at least one gay competitive swimming club in Manchester too, they follow on after our clubs Sunday evening session.

Considering your post is about otters...
The Avatar I see for Nick-Nack is two Sea Otters holding hands.I love Otters, me- have one permanently on my thigh.

amazed to discover, while having a curry with the good lady and the in-laws earlier this evening, that i've never unleashed this dad-joke classic on them:
- what's the difference between dhal and tarka dhal?
- one's a little 'otter.
*groans all round.

Sunday swim i wrote out a set with some long intervals and lots of drill work, as I havent done any for ages.
Anyway got to pool late and only had an hour left, some woman and her daughter were nearly drowning in the deep end, life guard dove in, the other one ready to leap.... managed to get them to the wall, both of them none swimmers with 1 noodle between them ! DER !
anyway then it was continuous over taking for me so gave up on the main sets and just did as much as possible plus lots of drills.
Anyway - Have you done one arm drills before ? I havent.
A couple of my sets were;
5 x 100 - FC Drills ( 25 catch/25swing(straight arms like a windmill)/25 fists/25 1 arm)5 x 50 Back Drills (25 work on roll and turn/25 1 arm)
I could really feel the weakness on my left arm when doing the 1 arm drills.
On the back i could feel the exact area in my trapizius. I definitely recommend these, especially if you ache on one side, like i do.I am going to keep finishing up with left side drills for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference.

I need to severely work on my core strength- keep getting crippling stitch, which continues after I get out. Its bugging me at the moment, as it comes just after catch...
I also need to just swim more- a busy tiring day is stopping me getting to the pool. -

Not for a couple of hrs...
I'm pretty sure its lack of core strength- normally I'd be training that hard, currently just sitting at a desk all day.
Interestingly running and stitch appears to be more prevalent in people who exhale on the right foot. -

Looks like a great set.
Will be using that tmw (except for the bit with the fins).I've been a bit directionless in swimming recently.
This morning was:
500 warm up
10 arms
5x2 kick
1k racepace
500 down.My training aim is to have every morning be:
500 warm up
20 arms
5x4 alt legs and breast
1.5k race pace
20 drill set
500 down. -

Had a really good swim this morning- didn't aim for a distance- just had 45mins to do some, so swam for that length of time solidly. (would have been 1hr had they not removed us from the pool to move the lane ropes and put the floor up)
Tmw- 3k set time:
10 up
10 arms
10 drills
5x2 legs
2,4,6,8,10,8,6,4,2 crawl hard.
5x2 legs
10 drills
10 arms.
10 down. -

Do blokes who do swim triathlon training wear those all in one cycle suits at the pool ?? Cos a bloke was yesterday.... it was like he was gonna start doing aqua aerobics or something....
-
• #1022
I think its acceptable to wear it once, just to test it out.
But even thats pushing it cos you're in a wetsuit mostly.Long answer short- I've not seen it with the uni tri club here, nor when I was in my last university's tri club.

• #1023
Is it any good (for other sports).
Looks incredible. I'd been trying to decide if I wanted it. -
• #1024
Might try this tonight, and see if i can improve times weekly.
750* x 2 FC@ css * 2 min rest
400* x 2 FC@ css * 1.5 min rest
200* x 2 FC@ css * 1 min rest.Try and get the same times on each set.......... hmmmm and then see what the splits are at the end..........
I say css, but really mean the max effort to increase my css -

No hiding.
I got the swimovate last year. Kind of annoys me a bit, as it doesnt record drills, because of changes in stroke.
I like it to do timing, but dont use it all the time.what no calories used ?
I dont understand how they work out your efficiency either........ ?
Not quite the same 2.3k potency today but, it is Friday ! Plus just got back to my desk and my cossie arrived from America ! YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY !
I am Hampton Pooling-it this sunday ! :)
