MV - yeah I've found contact printing you get much reduced resolution/sharpness when compared with proper printing from an enlarger.
These were contact prints on very old paper (expired in 80s I think) from 5x4 glass plates. I've found with a film neg the results are a bit better, I guess its to do with the newton effect of the layers of glass/film backing.
This is a scan of a 69 film neg. In reality the glass plate negs are as sharp/ similar res to this, and scanned on hte same machine. So it just shows just how much is lost in the paper/method
