  • I'm not sure if there's a glitch or if I've missed something, but fat birds have the Selle Italia Lady Gel Flow saddle at both £60 & £85.
If you go to their website and search, it's the proper price, if you search under google shopping, it's cheaper than trade price.

    Same saddle?

  • Hmm....looks suspiciously similar to me! Thanks for sharing Wicksie!

  • i really love my old cinelli unicanitor, it has a lot of flex, where as the newer model doesnt have any.

  • Hmm....looks suspiciously similar to me! Thanks for sharing Wicksie!

It's just arrived, a week later but it's the wrong one.

    Not this.

Way more padding and different cut out. Not happy.

  • Send them a pooh in the post

  • I’ve spent a lot of time today reading this thread – I desperately need to buy a new saddle as my current one is phenomenally uncomfortable. It’s not so much when I’m riding (though that’s not exactly like floating on air) but afterwards that I just feel really sore. Nice.

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations, I’m off to my LBS tomorrow to try out some of the suggestions... fingers crossed!!

  • I'm in the market for a(nother) saddle as I tried the one Wicksie got and would agree that it's not comfortable. Need to offload it.

Am getting a SMP Dynamic for my road bike but will be after something a lot cheaper for the SS. Hopefully next payday I can do this.

  • I'll say it again:

  • For a lady though, **Mr **Grooves?

  • Brooks - every time

  • +1

My bf borrowed my fixed whilst visiting today and kept mentioning how comfy my B17 was!

  • Brooks for me too, even though, in my teens and twenties, they were about the most uncool thing you could put on a bike, used only by old, bearded CTC'ers and grizzled club riders. Like my uncle, who handed me one of his old Brooks when I returned from a summer long trip across France and Spain, having completely worn through the leather skin on my stylish Italian saddle I had spent months saving up for. I still have that first Brooks, over thirty years later. It must be at least fifty years old. The Italian saddle went in the bin, it didn't look quite so stylish wrapped in duck tape and I couldn't even afford to get it repaired. I learned my lesson and now have various Brooks on all my bikes. I don't ever expect to buy another saddle. Which, even taking into account the way their price has rocketed over recent years, still represents excellent value for money.

I know some people find them uncomfortable. Although, I have never had this problem, nor have I ever understood the wearing them in bit. Mine have felt fine from first ride onwards, although you can clearly see the pattern your bum makes on them as time passes. But perhaps my ability to ride on anything for days without any ill effects in the bottom area is due to a good deal of padding (all muscle of course, ahem) plus years and years as a kid, teenager and younger adult of riding absolutely crap saddles.

  • My B17 was great right out of the box. I tried a Swallow or a Swift, can't remember which, and hated it. They're too rounded on the sit bits. Not nice! I'm now working up to deciding between the Selle Italia SLR Max Gel Flow and the Selle SMP Evolution. Both have cutouts but the Evolution has what seems to be better anatomical shape, what with the curve to it.

However, the SMP is double the price of the SLR and I don't race so it may just come down to price.

  • I am now the proud owner of a SMP TRK (men) saddle that I bought from Corrine earlier today. A short ride from Ealing to Balham is probably not a true test of said item, but my bits are very impressed so far. A curved saddle definitely works for me.

It felt as if I was sitting in a comfy armchair and I certainly felt higher on the bike overall, although the saddle/seatpost was at the correct height. I'm in love...........

PS: Corrine said the women's version was wider than the men's. Oh my, is all I can say to that.

PPS: Corrine now also bakes a very mean biscuit or three. I only had one. Something to do with some comment I made about a certain person being 'antisocial' . I might need to get Fettle to plead my case for two or more on my next visit :-).

I agree, used these for years. Done a few 100 mile rides and about as comfortable as any saddle would be after 6+ hours in the saddle :-)

  • Not sure where to put this so putting it here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2144328/How-cycling-reduce-womans-sexual-enjoyment-unless-raise-handlebars.html

"Women who cycle regularly are at risk of decreased sensation in the pelvic region, a new study has showed."

    Come on!

  • "people who ride bikes what don't fit them properly experience pain" shock report reveals

At least they haven't mentioned cancer anywhere in the article.

  • The Daily Mail is hilarious. I particularly like the comments on this piece – the one saying “BUT OF COURSE you shouldn’t have your handlebars lower than your saddle as otherwise you’ll fall off” made me laugh in particular.

  • In defence of the Daily Mail*, last weeks Cycling Weekly had a similar article.

Except that CW used the grown up words.

    What, like 'minge'?

What are women doing riding bicycles anyway? It's not very ladylike at all. They ought to just stick to riding in the passenger seats of cars driven by manly men instead of getting involved in these kind of minge-distressing shenanigans.

  • in the 19th century, the scare tactic was 'your womb will collapse' if you ride a bike (ha) http://rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/f-word-collective/2012/04/how-female-athlete%E2%80%99s-body-became-battleground-gender-assump

my fav is still the specialized womens 155

  • a new study has showed

And this is a national 'newspaper' ... your favourite religious figure wept.

  • Thanks for all the help in this thread.
I've finally taken the plunge and bought a new saddle...

  • Well done Shoosh. Hope you get on with it.

In other news - I'm still in love with my SMPs, with the Dynamic being in the lead.

  • I would vote for a leather saddle. Yes, my eyes watered for the first week. It was bloody agony. Then someone told me that I needed to soak the saddle in a bucket of water for an hour, and then go out on a ride on it. Actually, I just did a ride across London in a deluge of heavy rain, and that did the trick.

The saddle completely moulded itself to my anatomy. It's the most comfortable saddle I've ever had. Go on... treat yourself to a Brooks leather saddle...

  • Those with the B17 - is it like this one? http://www.lfgss.com/thread86097.html

    Is there a womens B17?
