About your mate- a psychiatrist might say the womanizing was a projection of unsatisfactory pressure to conform to sexuality 'norms'.
But then psycho-babble is interesting to say the least.
(have a friend in a similar situation- not a player when younger though- but they say that they were never happy/ could never get that 'connection')
