  • Drive a Mini 1275Gt before buying, I had one way back and it was dreadfull, much worse than later ordinary classic Minis.

There is no such thing as a low mileage W123 diesel estate, I think they must have manufactured them with 100,000 miles on them.

  • Remember it burned oil, as I doubt it had had many oil changes and after 8 oil and filter changes with cheap 20/50 oil 6 or 7 liters so two gallon bottles at a time, and I used the formula 1 brand. The oil would go black in a day, but at the end it stopped burning oil and the engine ran better and stopped turn the oil to sludge.

From what I've read is a maximum of 3k miles on a good engine between changes.
But they often aren't looked after- as the engine will run on pretty much anything- There's a guy in Devon- who 'specialises' in old Mercs- by specialise he's got all the spares you could ever want in several garages- and is super eccentric, but a good source of knowledge- who runs one of his on used engine oil/ veg oil depending on what comes to hand.

I drove one and it was magnificent- but it had had suspension and brakes upgraded. Still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger- had the cash and it was a good price.

  • They are magnificent cars.

I have also been greatly admiring the 190 recently. Someone on Retro-Rides has a lovely 2.6 Sportline
If Mercedes went back to making cars that looked and were built like the W201 it wouldn't be a bad thing.

  • My first car was a gold w201 with completely red interior, loved it. On the lookout for another one.

  • this is music!!

  • Me with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rauno_Aaltonen at the festival Mini sent us to over the weekend.

Sweet weekend, 34 degrees, schmoozed a bit, mate wrote off his Clubman on a mountain pass, had to interpret with Gendarmerie for 2 hours as I was the only French speaker, free go-karting was good, bullied a Cooper into spinning on the Paul Ricard circuit in a Cooper D Auto Countryman (Mini's soft roader) - I felt bad and then didn't because he should have been much faster than me, lots of other things too but I forget.

Rauno gave us some sweet tips for the race car, looking to win Club Class in Time Attack this year, if the guy in a works touring car gets bumped out of club (as he should!!)

  • lustyness.

  • 2 please!

They are fantastic - I've got the EZ EFI set up. Manifold rather than TB injection though.

Turnkey, no adjustments for temp or elevation, no stumbles off idle and same WOT as a well set up carb.

Mine's no good for forced induction or different fuels though, you need the more complicated set ups for that.

  • Buy both.

I want a Mini for around town errands.

    Quote Nurse too

Corrected for accuracy, Austin Mini, Morris Mini or later just Mini. Then BMW Mini.

  • If someone want s a Merc estate I am selling mine

My C43 purchase means that I no longer have enough parking permits so she has to go :(

  • Would you want a space in Tooting, or is it definitely off?

  • Well,I can park it on thenlocalmcouncilmestate for free, but I have 4 cars at the mo so as much as I hate to admit it one need to go

  • I'd like one. But there are SO many things I should do before owning a car for no reason. If I wake up one morning buried in cash I'll have one again. Haven't owned one since 2000.

  • Oh my lord.

  • Mopar love time.

Ugly duckling 62 Belvedere, 413. These are growing on me.

  • 1955 Newport and New Yorker. These make superb customs.

  • Yes, Joe. Colour on that second one in your first post is delightful.

  • i keep passing one of these in black, in nice condition but with a really trippy interior done out in a combination of swirly purple velvet seat covers and liberal application of turkish carpetry on rear sills and floor. Brilliant.
