  • Bump!
Were back up and well into bookings for the year.
Thursdays is try out evening from 19th April on
Lots of slots available for private bookings.
Check the weblinks on this thread for full info.

  • just done 84 miles on the track. 4.40, 536 laps.134 K
as a motivator to schools that are doing www.thebigpedal.org.uk
todays stage is 84 miles so thats what i rode.

got through 129 laps in the first hour, and then hit the 200 in 1.45.pretty easy.

    third hundred was just grafting.

kids from local school came along and cheered me on at 345 for a while which was great.

My Rossin is brutally stiff so I swapped for a Dolan just to change the saddle really.

Last 100 I counted down and had to dig in a bit. strange how minimal it is just going round and round and gives a slight flavour of what it might be like to do those silly/ long races.

anyway stoked to make it in 4.40, slightly over time but still had a few miles to get in for last bit of work. good spring training ride

  • Most excellent. I did 100 miles around Regent's Park inner circle once. It was horrible. I imagine doing similar in a velodrome, with even less variation, is something most special.

  • yeah special needs more like, ta anyway 6pt

  • What was the wind like out there today? It's pretty gusty up here, but my dad called me from the beach, seemed to be enjoying the sun that we don't seem to be getting in London so I'm currently imagining Bmth as a tropical paradise.

  • yeah its breezy, usual prevailing S/W, sunny though.
funny to be there from total clear and watch the raising clouds as the morning turned to afternoon.

  • the track league kicked of tuesday here, at last, 4 weeks lost but were well up and running

    check the BCC website
data fromlast tuesdays racing was along the lines of 14 miles average speed 26 mph
and just one recent shot I liked/took

  • Are there any open events planned at Bournemouth this year? I've had a hunt around on the website for a calendar but can't find one.

  • 3/4s on the track? Must be the vets session

  • I'm more concerned with the black socks that don't look like they're cycling socks!

On a positive note, track looks great and looks like you're getting a good turn out for the league. Would definitely be up for any open meets there.

    Thanks for the interest
The answer I've been given is that there hasn't been any planned for this season, as the interest in the centre has to grow in the first full year before taking that step.

  • Maybe I'm missing something obvious, easy to do from up here in London's famous London, but isn't the best way to gain interest in a velodrome track by running races? To bring in riders from further away and locals to spectate who's interest may not have been piqued otherwise?

  • I'll put it this way.
From your knowledge how many qualified commissaires are there currently working?
Now with that figure in mind how many experienced promoters are also working?
Put these two essentials together and you have an answer.

  • I should also specify that the views of mf do not necessarily reflect the views of B.C.C management

  • I'm moving to Bournemouth in September from London to study at its University. This will be my playground on Saturdays and then Road cycling on Sundays.I need to get another track bike.Whoooopy wooooo wooooo lol

  • That's a shame, I'm getting antsy waiting to get on and give it a go! Not sure I fancy a 200 mile round trip just to ride an induction session tbh.

I can understand not being able to put on on a series of events but to not even have one single open event in the first year seems like they're missing a trick. A one off grand opening "record setting" event would be a sure fire way to generate some interest. Seems like a bit of a waste of a cracking facility imho.

  • I would come down to Bournemouth for some racing action.
I'll try not to come home via the hospital for three days next time too...

we run kids sessions on saturdays for 8-14 year olds, sounds like you'd fit right in.

  • Regional youth omnium this Saturday. Pushy parents

    • loads of catagories + important omnium results + timed events = much more complicated than an average open meeting.

But yeah I guess from a local point of view, there's no point importing a load of riders for a day - but its better to build up a local following of track riders capable of racing in the future.

Just make sure there's an open race on the programme next year!
