  • I have some steamroller forks for sale if anyone's interested.

  • Are your chain ring bolts tight enough? I have found this to be a source of creaking in the drive train in the past.

    They're fine.

  • My pink Chris King headset arrived today, LBS over the weekend for fitment.

    Will post picture soon as!

    Mmm, black and pink!

  • Damn, just ordered cranks, BB and pedals. About time these shitty platform/spd Shimanos get thrown off, though I'm not sure if I need new cranks. Spares never hurt, no?

I was advised to try sorting out the creaking with a new BB, as my mechanic did point out I'm a harsh rider and it doesn't surprise him if components begin to disintegrate below my saddle.
Meh, cycling isn't all that cheap after all.
Sadly, my 20 km commute is also coming to its end in two weeks.

  • Meh, cycling isn't all that cheap after all.

I logged in to the TfL website for the first time in forever this week after I had a lazy day and took the tube to work. It costs £6.20 to get from Tooting to Victoria and back. That's more than I thought it was. So unless I'm spending £6.20 a day on parts then I'm doing well.

  • Not that I'm complaining or hoping for zero costs to get away with.

Guess I was trying to fool my self a bit with getting away without giving enough attention for service after a long period of work the bike has done. Simply checking the chain and trueness of a wheel is just not enough.
Must have finally reached the point where more service is needed and will do so, once parts arrive.

That's true, I also have my lazy days and splash the cash on a train. Which is not a bad thing and can be a relieve if you do happen to be just too knackered to through yourself on a bike. Though it begins to hurt once you start wasting your 'service money' on public transport.

  • or get knocked off your bike and have to find the money to pay for a travelcard that you haven't budgeted for in over 18 months.

back on the surly front though I have a long list of (cheap) parts I'll be buying on payday with a view to getting my roller on the road finally. is just a basic functional build for now and I'll upgrade the nice bits I can't afford just yet once my insurance dorrah comes through.

  • Where's JonDs new bike? Pics or it didn't happen ;)

What bits do you need? I got a silver straight handlebar and a black 27.2 seatpost i'd be happy to donate

  • a very generous offer but I should be ok actually. appreciate it though.

Photos are coming....safe to say the bikes lovely. Great service from Charlie the Bikemonger, opened the shop on Sunday afternoon for me to pick it up, then we both rode our rollers 5 miles up to his favourite local for beers in the sun. Don't get that from wiggle.

  • Nice!gutted though I was hanging around swanage Sunday p.m
    Couldda shoulda met for beers

  • Ahh shame, didn't think, but I'm sure we'll be down that way soon, great shop, and the square and compass rocks....will let you know next time.

    Photo....it happened

  • Kin hell its yehuda moon...

  • Is Charlie selling bikes without bells? Tut.tut.
    Looks sweet happy days!

  • Haha, shame I shaved the beard down today, not so yehuda-like....

I did get a bell, it's in the brooks saddle box with the front and rear reflectors. didn't have time to put it on....it was sunny and the pub was open

I'll prob have it in Bath on Wednesday,

  • Can't believe it. The locknut on my rear hub came apart when removing my wheel after a puncture. Going to have to find out where I can get another surly locknut.

  • ^ Surely it doesn't have to be a Surly?

  • ^ Surely it doesn't have to be a Surly?

Yeah you're right. One thing I was thinking, would this be best left for a bike mechanic to fix, or whether its something that I could do myself?

  • They're pretty standard, just dependant on hub size. I snapped one, off a gran compe from miss tightening. Waked into Brixton cycles and a chap gave me one for free from his box.

  • I did the same thing on another hub, I ordered a couple from Surly in America so have one in my spares box.

Yours for a fiver if you need it, they are easy to fit just thread on.

  • Just use a good chainwhip and you'll be allright

I've bought a few, and everything but the shimano dura-ace one was a waste of money

  • ^ matching lockring here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread85902.html

  • Locknut, not locking chap. Locknut if washer nut that goes on the inside of the axel.

  • oh. my bad. too early in the morning
